in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

Curt MaggittPalm Beach Gardens, FL- Playing football in Florida means you have to be at the top of your game to keep up with the best. Playing football at Dwyer means you have to be even better. Once again the defending champs have reloaded with top talent and look to repeat. Last year they saw a top defensive player in Matt Elam join the Florida Gators program. This year defensive prospect Curt Maggitt figures to be another player who will be heavily recruited. With 14 offers already in hand, he’s already headed in the right direction.

“Yeah right now I think I have 14 offers. Some of them I can think of are: Alabama, FSU, LSU, Florida, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, Iowa, FIU, Iowa State, USF, Rutgers, Tennessee. I do not have any favorites at this time, and no school is standing out to me. I’m really just getting started in the process and not looking to make a decision any time soon. I would say that right now I’m hearing from all of the schools the same.”

Last year Curt was a nightmare off of the edge for opposing quarterback’s. At 6’4″ 210 lbs he is tough to block off the edge with his explosive first step, and great motor. He’s hoping to continue that success this upcoming season, and beyond.

“All of the schools are recruiting me at defensive end or “Jack” linebacker position. It doesn’t matter to me which I play in college as long as I get the chance to come off the edge. Next year I hope to break the state record for sacks in a season. I also want to be more of a leader. I’m going to continue to work harder this off season. I’m re-habbing from shoulder surgery right now. I’m not sure if I’ll do much spring, but I’ll be 100 percent by Fall. I’m probably going to play in some 7V7 tourneys this spring. Try to get over to UF and Miami for a spring game or practice. Other than that I’m just working on getting better, stronger, faster, and my agility.”

With a large amount of offers already in front of him, Curt explained what he will be looking for in a college.

“It will be real important to me to see how I bond with the coaches, the relationship. I will also look at the area and academics. I’m just not in any rush right now, so I expect that my decision may not be for a while. This year I’m just focused on our team, I want to be more of a leader, we want to repeat last year’s success.”
