McDonough, GA.- The last time we caught up with Avery Walls back in mid February he was sitting on around 10 scholarship offers. Spring can be the time of change for many and it certainly has been for the Union Grove standout. The ESPNU 150 watch lister claims he is now currently up to 27 total offers and is hearing from most of the elite schools in the country already. Spring ball has just started for him at Union Grove and he is excited to get back to competing again.
“I’ve been busy this spring so far. I have visited a lot of schools. Auburn, Stanford, Cal, USC, UCLA, Tennessee, Georgia, and Georgia Tech. I was trying to get to Oklahoma but I didn’t make it. My family works for Delta so I fly free. It’s nice for me to have that luxury. It will also factor into my decision since distance won’t be a big problem with their ability to travel. I will be graduating in December, so I need to narrow things down pretty soon. I’m hoping to have a top group by the end of summer.”
Tennessee, UCF, and UCLA are a few of his most recent offers. They join Oklahoma, Auburn, LSU, Michigan, Maryland, Stanford and numerous other programs to jump in the mix. Avery took a moment to talk about what he is looking for in a college program.
“I want to go somewhere where I feel comfortable with the coach. I will spend most of my time with the position coach so that will be important. I’m still hearing from new schools and I know some will be coming by this spring. Miami and Florida said they want to see me this spring. USC watched my film and said they will be coming out also. It’s a lot, all of the phone calls, messages on facebook, constant emails.”
With a visit to Tennessee to check out the spring game under his belt, Avery spoke about what he saw on the short visit.
“It was pretty good. I only went for the spring game, I didn’t hang around much afterwards. I went with (2010) Tennessee commit Rajion Neal and his parents. It was a good chance to see the environment. I also got to see the expansion at Neyland stadium they were doing. I had some people even ask me for an autograph.”
Tennessee sounds like they are certainly in the mix and we will continue to stay in touch with Avery.
