Myrtle Beach, SC.- Tight ends a plenty. That’s what new Tennessee head coach Derek Dooley is looking for. He’s planning on changing things to a tight end heavy system. With that new system, requires tight ends to fill the need. Tennessee was able to dip into the Juco ranks and take a tight end that could make an immediate impact. Andrew Power has been well traveled. Walked on at South Carolina right out of high school and now plays at Arizona Western. He has two years to play two of eligibility remaining. Volnation caught up with the recent Tennessee commit.

“It’s exciting no doubt. I’ll be playing tight end at Tennessee. They plan on running a tight end oriented offense. I’m a traditional tight end, I can run, I can block, and I can catch. I do everything I can to help the team. Coach Dooley told me he liked my game and that I was really good and strong. I have some other offers and quite a few other schools were starting to recruit me. I won’t take any other visits other than one to Tennessee to see a game. I’m all set.”

Andrew will enroll early as he is on pace to graduate in late December.

He spoke about why he elected to commit to Tennessee over other offers.

“The coaches were the main reason. They are the type of people I want to be around. The depth chart is appealing too. They appear to be checking into backgrounds and character big time. I think it’s great that they are recruiting character strongly.”

Arizona Western may sound familiar to some already. Another star defensive lineman Jesse Williams has made headlines and is one of the most wanted prospects in the country.

“We kind of talk about playing together. In fact we talked yesterday. He will do what’s best for him but I’ll stay in his ear and recruit him a little. I’m not going to be on him really hard all the time, but I know we’ll talk about it. He just doesn’t know enough about football over here so he asks us all a lot of questions about stuff. He knows Tennessee has an appealing depth chart for him, so we’ll see what happens.”
