Mobile, AL.- If you want to be a big time college quarterback, you have to get your name out there. For some the attention shows up right away, for others you have to get it the hard way. You get out there and camp and earn it. That is exactly what Saint Pauls Episcopal quarterback Jacob Coker has done. His last two days have been a blur to him by adding his two biggest offers to date. It’s an exciting time for the young man as he starts to hear from some prominent programs. Here’s the latest with his recruitment.

“I got two offers in two days. Duke and FSU offered me over the last two days. Those are two pretty good offers. I gotta figure stuff out, it’s all happening so fast. Now I have FSU, Duke, Arkansas State, and Southern Alabama offers. I’m hearing from Mississippi State, Louisville, and Tennessee also. That’s about it. I grew up a fan of Alabama of course, but I haven’t heard too much from them. Although lately they have been sending me camp invites. But right now I’d say that Duke, FSU, and Mississippi State, and Louisville are standing out. I like them all but I like FSU and Duke a lot right now.”

Jacob was recently at Florida State for a camp. It was his camp performance that earned him the immediate FSU offer. He discussed the offer and visit.

“I worked with coach Craig and Fisher at the camp, I guess I did good enough to get an offer. They like the way I played and they said they think I’m capable of being a really good quarterback. Coach Cutliffe at Duke said the same thing when I was there. I wasn’t really able to do much of a tour while I was at either due to NCAA rules. But I drove around and looked around at campus and stuff. They were both real nice.”

Another offer could soon be on it’s way to Jacob. There is a feeling that Louisville could be soon offering the 6’5″ 210 slinger.

“Louisville said if I came by they would offer. But it sounds like I might get one early this week from what they tell me. Tennessee is keeping in touch quite a bit right now too. I definitely have some interest there. I have been to Ole Miss, FSU, Duke, Tennessee, and Mississippi State so far, that’s it. I don’t have anymore visits lined up, I think I’m all done. I’m just going to get ready for my senior season.”

While not a lot of film is available on line on Jacob. He took some time to break down his own game.

“I feel like I’m athletic and I can throw well. I got much taller over the last year and that helps. I can always improve everything. My footwork, and I want to keep studying defenses, I want to get football smarter. I feel like I can run any type of offense, whatever they’re running I can handle. I know I can move pretty well. I’m really just looking for good football and good academics. I’m not sure if I’m going to commit soon or what. It’s all just happening so fast right now, I just need to talk it over with my parents. I mean if I fall in love with a place I could do it right then. I’m just not sure.”

Jacob has played football his whole life, but mentioned he only started playing quarterback his freshman year.

He also mentioned he will look to major in sports medicine.

My children went to St. Paul’s and it is a class school with high academic requirements. We could do a lot worse than recruit from there. They have had some quality athletes over the years and because they were small they did not get attention they should. I vote go get him.
