Fort Mitchell, KY.- Class of 2012 verbal offers are already going out in dozens to top prospects. Potentially the class of 2012 is already loaded with top quarterback potential. One of the bigger names so far has been Dixie Heights high slinger Zeke Pike. He has taken a large number of visits this summer to campuses and camps all over the country. This early travel has paid off for Pike who claims to have 18 verbal offers already.
“I’ve got a bunch of offers already, it’s been lots of fun so far. Kentucky, Louisville, Cincinnati, Purdue, Iowa, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Boston College, Toledo, Ohio, Indiana, Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, and Clemson are some of the ones I can think of. I know it’s around 18 right now. I know it’s kind of early but I like Florida, Tennessee, Alabama a little. I like Purdue, Illinois, and some other too. It’s early so I’m still open. I’m looking to get it down to a top ten soon, then maybe work it down to a top 5 or 3 after that. I want to go to some games and get a gameday feel. I want to go ahead and make a decision by the end of my junior year. But we’ll see.”
With many early offers at his disposal, Pike continues to add even more attention almost daily. He has taken visits to nearly a dozen camps. He admitted that most of his offers came from performances at these camps over the summer.
“I’ve been to a dozen camps over the summer. I’m 6’5″ 230 pounds so schools love my size. Schools like how athletic I am for my size and how well I throw. Coaches tell me I have a very natural release and the ball comes out of my hand good. I want to play in an offense where I’m under center some of the time at least. I like to drop back and throw from the pocket. But I play in the spread in high school so I can play in a wide open offense too. I’m looking for a school that will get me to the next level, that’s a big factor. It’s a dream of mine to play in the NFL. I want to enjoy college so I’m looking for a place I will love to be at for 4 years. I want to win a national championship in college, so I’m looking for a BCS type contender.”
Pike also admitted that several schools were coming hard already for his commitment. Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Kentucky, Purdue, Louisville, Oklahoma State, and Iowa are all pushing hard early according to Pike.
He also admitted that USC, UCLA, and Oregon have all been in contact early. Distance will not play a role in his decision.
