“VOL CALLS” Kicks Off Season August 22 from Calhoun’s On the River

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – “Vol Calls” the official statewide call-in radio show for University of Tennessee athletics kicks off its 25th anniversary season Wednesday night on August 22 for the 2012 football season. The one-hour show airs at 8 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. CT from Calhoun’s On the River in downtown Knoxville.

Bob Kesling, the voice of the Tennessee Volunteers and UT’s director of broadcasting, serves as the show’s host and is joined by Vol Network veteran Brent Hubbs to answer questions and provide insight into University of Tennessee athletics. Once football season kicks off, University of Tennessee Head Football Coach Derek Dooley will appear on-site at Calhoun’s On the River during game weeks to answer questions from the live audience and take calls for approximately 30 minutes. Kesling, Hubbs and Coach Dooley will be joined by former Vol standouts like Tim Priest, Jeff Francis and Pat Ryan among others as rotating special guests.

Located on the Tennessee River in the shadows of Neyland Stadium, this will be the inaugural year for Calhoun’s On the River serving as the home of “Vol Calls.” Famous for its award-winning ribs, BBQ and other delicious Southern dishes, Calhoun’s is one of Tennessee’s most famous landmark restaurants. Calhoun’s will give away prizes each week during football season through its Facebook and Twitter pages including two game tickets and two corporate hospitality passes for each home UT football game. Depending on the weather conditions “Vol Calls” will originate from a special location outside or inside that will allow a large number of fans to watch and listen to the show.

“Vol Calls” is the exclusive radio program and event where Tennessee fans can call in and talk with the head coaches of the Volunteers and Lady Vols. Fans can place a “Vol Call” anywhere in the United States by dialing 1-800-688-8657 or Tennessee customers of Verizon can dial #TENN. Patrons at Calhoun’s On the River may ask a question in person and fans may also submit questions through the IMG-Vol Network Facebook page.

“Vol Calls” runs for 34 weeks from August 24 to April 16. Once the football regular season concludes, the show will move to a Monday night slot to better accommodate Tennessee’s basketball schedule. The program can be heard on close to 50-plus radio stations across the state of Tennessee and the Southeast on the Vol Radio Network. The weekly program can also be heard online live or archived for free each week through utsports.com.
