When you rush for over 2,000 yards as a Sophomore and then rush for 1,300 yards while missing five games you are bound to become a hot commodity going into your senior season for college recruiting. Mustafa Greene who hails from Irmo High School in Irmo, SC has seen the level of interest rise and rise over the course of the season. With his season about to start Greene spoke about his summer and how he is preparing for his final season of high school football.

“I haven’t been going to any individual camps this summer. I’ve been sticking to the team camps that my high school is going to. Mostly 7-on-7 passing leagues and a few full team camps here and there. I’ve just been trying to get myself and my team ready for the season so we can win the state title. Losing in the 2nd round last season stung so we want to make up for that mistake,” says the 6’0 190 pound Greene.

While looking towards a state title goal is Greene’s team goal he also spoke about a goal he’d like to make personally.

“As a sophomore I ran for 2,000 yards. Last year I only did 1,300 because I missed five games with an injury. I want to show that the Sophomore year isn’t a fluke and that I can beat that 2,000 yard mark. If you could describe myself it’d be a downhill runner and that’s how I will get those yards. I am great at running hard and using my vision to get the big gain. That is how I will do it, taking my time and reading the defense,” says Greene.

With schools lining up to land Greene VolNation.com got a chance to have Greene give us the low-down on where things currently stand.

“Right now I am totally open. I am taking things in and just seeing where I can go with my offers. I am going to be playing in the Under Armour All-American Game and I will be announcing where I will be going to school then,” says Greene.

With an announcement set Greene has seen his offers climb week after week with new schools jumping into the fray that he can’t even remember them all.

“I have so many I can’t remember them all, I am sorry about that. Off the top of my head I have Alabama, Tennessee, Clemson, North Carolina, Maryland, Georgia, NC. State, South Carolina, West Virginia, and a few others,” says Greene.

With a Tennessee offer in hand already Greene went into detail about why he likes the Vols and what the chances are of landing him.

“I’d say I am really interested in the Vols program. I know they got a few running backs in last year’s class but I know they need one more back. I can be that guy for them. I will fight for that starting position and am willing to push the other guys real hard to make us all better in the end. If they need me to rotate in and out that is fine too. I just like the chance to play early at Tennessee. I like the program they have over there and Coach Kiffin looks to be turning things around. Tennessee excites me,” says Greene.

When Greene isn’t on the football field he is usually working on his math skills or drawing his next masterpiece. Green plans to major in Mathematics or Art when he gets to college.

“I love drawing and doing math. I will be looking for a school that has that major for me. Those two areas are big parts of my life,” says Greene.

Outside of his possible major Greene also spoke about what he is looking for in a college program.

“Outside of my major I want to see what schools are producing NFL players. How can they help me get there. Do I fit well into the system that they run? I am looking for a chance to fight for a starting spot right away or down the road. Either is fine, I’d just like a chance to work at being the primary back. If I am not the starter I am ok with being the 2nd or 3rd back waiting my turn. I can be the team player,” says Greene.

With his final season approaching and lofty goals Greene doesn’t have any plans to decide on his commitment yet but he’s notified VolNation.com he will keep in touch and when he’s ready to release his top 10 we will be one of the first to know. Scouts, Inc. Evaluation: Greene is a strong, sturdy downhill runner who projects very well in a two-back, power scheme at the next level. Is solidly-built with well-proportioned bulk. Has the strong body composition to develop into a high-carry back at the next level with the deceptive power to wear down a defense. Shows great urgency out of his stance attacking the hole. Wastes little time squaring up, finding the north-south seam and aggressively hitting it with proper lean. A good one-cut-and-go runner who rarely wastes lateral steps and consistently gains positive yardage. Not an ideal pick and slide zone runner, but he does show the vision, body control and sharp change-of-direction skill to hit the cutback crease decisively without gearing down much. Flashes some suddenness and has deceptively quick feet. Reaches top speed within 2-3 steps giving him great momentum through the hole and the strength to bounce off initial contact. Looks to finish each run and will push the pile while breaking out of most high-arm tackles. While he has better “play speed” than his 40 time would indicate, he is far from a burner when he reaches the second level. Projects more as a load back who with added size could wear down a defense and get stronger as the game goes on. Does hit the cutback well but is a bit straight-lined. May be better suited for a downhill, power scheme in college as we did not see the patience and lateral hip fluidity that project well in a heavy, outside zone offense. Overall, we would like to see Greene continue filling out his frame to the 200-pound range and increase lower-body strength to remain durable and excel in that type of high-carry, downhill role. Good back with the toughness and in-line strength coveted at the next level.
