Turner Baty reveals Manning ties

in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

Turner BatyWhen a high school student gets up and moves across the nation before his senior year it is almost a given that the student will suffer from being the new kid and miss home. When you are a high level quarterback and transfer from California to Florida before your senior season the chances are even greater that you will slip through the cracks of recruiting until you start playing games again as a senior. This is the case for Turner Baty, who after his junior season of football moved with his family out to Fort Lauderdale, FL due to a job transfer and has now enrolled into Saint Thomas Aquinas High School where he’s assumed the starting QB role.

“We just finished our two-a-days today so I am done with practice today,” said Baty. “Things are going really well for us. Timing is getting down and we look really good. We are heading up to Ohio for our opener soon and I like how the team is coming along. We look crisp and efficient. We are going to have a big year.”

With the adjustment made and now his team coming along strong Baty is just waiting for his recruitment to pick up as he currently only has one offer which is from Stanford. However, as he informed VolNation that will most likely be changing soon.

“I am on the cusp of getting an offer from Tennessee I think,” said Baty. “I went to a camp there this summer to check out the team and also let the staff check me out. I threw really, really well and I was really thinking they would offer then. They didn’t but the interest really has picked up since then. I get to speak with the staff about twice a week over the phone and I also get a lot of hand written letters from them. I have a feeling they are going to offer really soon the way things are going.”

With an offer on Baty’s mind he informed VolNation of an interesting connection to the Tennessee Volunteer family.

“My dad is actually great friends with the Manning family and so when Peyton played at UT they become my favorite school as a kid. I grew up a huge Vol fan and I used to have my phone ring tone set to the band playing Rocky Top. Right now the Vols are my top school, easy. I am going to take an official visit but that is still being worked out right now.”

With the Vols sitting on top of Baty’s list VolNation learned what’s put them there.

“Well I love the excitement and enthusiasm that Coach Kiffin has brought,” said Baty. “They run a pro style offense that fits me really well which is key. I also just love the fact that they have tradition. Besides that, where else can you go and play in front of 104,000 people every weekend and still play for a good team? Not many last time I checked.”

VolNation will certainly keep tabs on this signal caller from Florida as the season gets going and will provide updates when needed.
