The Vols coaching staff have been really busy lately with their recruiting game. Most recently the staff held the second group of official visitors and this last weekend’s visitors included what turned out two be three commits in Demarco Cobbs, Brandon Willis, and Corey Miller. VolNation recently spoke with Michael Palardy (Ft. Lauderdale,FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) about his trip to his future college and now we speak with his teammate Giovanni Bernard from St. Thomas Aquinas where he currently stars as the starting running back.
“Oh the visit was an awesome visit for me,” said Bernard. “I had never been to a place like that before and it was also my first visit to college for official visits. I was definitely impressed by the visit.”
Bernard had some questions about the running back depth and how many backs got into the game and Bernard walked away from the visit with some more insight in his questions.
“Going in I was curious about the depth and the amount of carries each guy got and after seeing them in action I am pretty impressed,” said Bernard. “I liked the fact the staff let each guy get his carries and you could tell the staff is interested in giving young guys a look as Bryce Brown got a good amount of looks. That really intrigues me. I like the fact I could see time early.”
Bernard said he won’t decide on a college until he can check out all the schools he needs to see but states right now he only has two visits officially set, Oregon State this weekend, and last week’s Tennessee visit. Other schools such as Alabama, Notre Dame, and Nebraska could be serious contenders for a visit.
Bernard is set to visit Oregon State this weekend where his older brother starred as a running back and then Bernard will look to setting other visits.
As a junior, he rushed for 1,528 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Below is a highlight tape of Gio Bernard.
