John Cullen talks Tennessee

The Tennessee Volunteers have searched high and low for talent all over the nation. With a coaching staff with deep roots to the west coast many prospects back west have been given a considerable amount of attention from the Vol staff.

One of those players is JC offensive tackle John Cullen(Fullerton, CA/Fullerton College). Cullen is a 6’5 280 pound bulldozer who clears paths for his running backs and protects his quarterback at all costs. He’s a player the Vols have targeted as a primary player for the 2010 class.

“The Vols coaching staff talks to me a lot,” said Cullen. “When I went out to check out the place they treated me really well and let me know I was wanted really bad.”

Cullen made the trip during the middle of the season and it was an eye opening visit for the talented tackle.

“I had never been in that part of the country so I wasn’t too sure what to expect,” said Cullen. “ Safe to say that when I went out there it was awesome. Top of the line visit. The atmosphere and the stadium, everything, it was awesome. I really enjoyed my visit.”

Cullen didn’t commit on the visit but it left a lasting impression that even weeks after he still values the trip very highly.

“I’d say the visit really opened my eyes to what Tennessee has to offer for me,” said Cullen.

One thing Cullen likes is the chance to play right away at Tennessee and the fact he is already understanding the playbook.

“I like the fact that Tennessee is telling me I can come in right away and compete for playing time,” said Cullen. “I don’t have many years left to play and I want to go somewhere where I think we will be really good and I can get on the field. At Tennessee I sat down with the staff and learned a little bit about the playbook and pretty soon we were drawing up plays on the board and everything was clicking like I had played there for years.”

While Cullen has only taken one official visit he does plan on taking visits to Utah, Auburn, and Miami in the future. Oklahoma is also another school who could possibly get a visit.

His timeline to decide on a school is still up in the air.

“Right now it could be tomorrow, a week, or a month, who knows,” says Cullen. “It will happen when I am ready and when I think I have seen enough.”

Cullen was asked if he’d give a top set of schools or anything and had an interesting response.

“Right now I cant say that because I have only been to one play,” said Cullen. “However, my visit to Tennessee was so good that when I get all my visits done Tennessee will make a very strong case to be my top school. I know it will be really hard to beat as I loved it so much.”
