As Derek Dooley continues to focus on the 2011 recruiting class, it’s clear that the state of Georgia is a primary focus for Tennessee’s first year head coach.
One such target from the Peach State is Rory Anderson, a 6-4, 200 pound tight end from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Georgia.
Anderson, who has offers from USC, Tennessee, Purdue, NC State, Illinois, Minnesota, Tulsa, and FIU, recently spoke told ESPN affiliate thebigspur.com about what he looks for in a school.
“The academic program is big for me,” Anderson said. “Also just where ever I feel comfortable. A decision should come right after my season. I’m not going to do anything before then.”
Tennessee appears to be in serious contention for Anderson’s services. The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder lists his top four schools and a leader.
“Tennessee, South Carolina, Purdue, and Minnesota,” Anderson listed in order.
Anderson hasn’t been to Knoxville as of yet but is hearing a lot about what the Vols to offer from his basketball teammate and Tennessee signee Trae Golden.
“I haven’t visited them yet but I’ve been in the area,” Anderson said. “I really liked it. The people were really nice. One of my basketball teammates is going up there next year and he talks to me about them a lot. They also have a good team.”
Recently, Anderson and Golden combined to score 55 points in their team’s second round victory of the Class AAAAA tournament. Golden scored 39 points while Anderson added 14.
