Junior defensive back played in 23 games for Vols

University of Tennessee head football coach Derek Dooley announced Wednesday that junior defensive back Janzen Jackson has been dismissed from the Tennessee football team.

“Our program has devoted a tremendous amount of energy, resources, support, and care in an effort to help Janzen manage his personal challenges,” said Dooley. “I will always be there to help him as a person, but there comes a time when a player’s actions preclude him from the privilege of playing for the University of Tennessee football team.

“Although I’m disappointed with this outcome, we will never compromise the long-term organizational values and goals we maintain here at Tennessee.”

Jackson, from Lake Charles, La., played in 23 career games (22 starts) in two seasons with the Vols from 2009-10. He earned Coaches’ All-SEC Second Team honors in 2010, when he tied for the team lead in interceptions with five and led the Tennessee secondary with 69 tackles. Jackson finishes his Tennessee career with six interceptions, 106 tackles, and 15 passes defended.

Glad to see Coach step up and stick to his guns, but this will hurt us for a little while. Wish he could have fixed his problems cause he was a good football player!

CDD bent over backwards to support JJ too bad he did not follow on his end. I wast is a shame I was looking forward to seeing him play this year.

Yeah this was somewhat a possibility in the back of my mind…sucks but thankful it happened now not mid-season.

When I was at the game down in LSU last season the guy next to me told me that he was glad that they didn’t get JJ. It was one of those “my dad is good friends with a bunch of local HS coaches, etc. etc” type of conversations. He was a solid guy, but was going to take it with a grain of salt and see how things turned out. When JJ started having his issues back in Dec I started to rethink the converstaion.

In a nut shell, he said JJ’s dad (he wasn’t specific on real or step dad) was a real POS. And that it was sad that he would eventually bring young JJ down. That’s all cause I think that’s about the time Jefferson ran it for a TD….Oy!

Real quick note on Dooley… This was my second trip down there… (Damn you Rohan Davey!!!)…anyway….It was a great trip. We really didn’t get much disgusting trash talking, but I did get A LOT of “Hey we’ll trade you Miles for Dooley!!” Countless of times this was said to me. They love the guy down there, so I’m glad we got him. I was never a naysayer on him, and know he has as much potential as anyone given the time and support.

Go VOLS!!!

Something should have been done a long time ago after the gas station armed robbery with Nuk-dog Richardon, while wearing a Property of UT Athletics shirt.

Good for Coach Dooley. Continue cleaning out the crap that Kiffin brought in.
