KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The University of Tennessee and the University of Pittsburgh have agreed to a two-game football series which will be played in 2021 and 2022.
The Vols will welcome the Panthers to Neyland Stadium on Sept. 11, 2021, while Tennessee will travel to Pittsburgh’s Heinz Field on Sept. 10, 2022.
Tennessee’s game in Pittsburgh is slated to be the Vols’ first-ever contest in the state of Pennsylvania, the 26th different state UT will have played in.
Tennessee and Pitt have played two previous games, with the Panthers winning both times. Pitt captured a 30-6 win at Neyland Stadium on Oct. 25, 1980 and a 13-3 season-opening win on Sept. 3, 1983.
The teams are also linked by Tennessee legend and College Football Hall of Famer Johnny Majors, who coached the Panthers on two occasions from 1973-76 and 1993-96. He guided Pitt to the 1976 National Championship before returning to Rocky Top to coach the Vols from 1977-92.
