J.P. Prince

I'm taking bets that JP fouls a Vandy player shooting a 3 on Saturday. I'll start the odds at 2:1. Any takers?

But seriously, he seems to be taking better shots in the flow of the game which will help us out and is defense isn't great, but he has been playing much better D the last few games.

True. I think he stepped up a bit on D last night. Still not there, defensively, but he seemed a bit more intense on that side of the ball.

I think he has the capability , only time will tell if he has the desire and is willing to listen to CBP.:good!:

Man am I glad to see Prince turning it up a notch. I jumped off the Prince bandwagon last week, but I'm back on now.:)

Prince has stepped up to be a leader on the floor. He is an excellent passer, rebounder, and penetrater. His length has also enhanced his defense. The Vols need him to keep his play at a high level to get to the NCAA tourney.

great game this evening...and if he can hit a 3 in a game, you know something crazy is in the air.

I loved his swagger as well.
Played with a little edge, and was constantly in the ear of fredrick.

JP had a great game. Glad to see it. Don't think it's time to take the crow off the grill yet though.

Totally agree. One game does not make him a prince as he wrote on his shoe. He had a few ESPN highlight plays last night but that is just one game in a multitude of sorry defense and erratic play. He will have to play the rest of the season up to his talent level before the crow comes on this grill.

far and away the best basketball game he's ever played. Should he figure out that he can use his God given talents and help this team win on a nightly basis, he'll be an enormous asset. Otherwise, we'll still see a few glimpses of huge potential and a slew of brainless plays with some woofing mixed in.

JP has finally found his niche...he is increadible at finishing around the basket and needs to continue to dribble drive and dish!

I agree with all except the leader comment. Still too many me first moments for my liking. (Saluting after every made basket, gesturing to the crowd, etc.)

It will not be long before he is T'ed up for that crap. I can handle emotion, but be a little smarter about it.

No doubt he had the best game of his life last night, But he is far from a leader on this team.

Strike #2. Late in the first half he fouled dude taking an off-balance 3. That said, I still appreciated his game last night. He has very good eyes and distributes well. If he could control himself just a little better when driving, he would score more in the paint. He has good kinesthetic sense, but some of the layups were no more than prayers.

that was Woolridge that fouled on the 3, not Prince

The salute is after his first dunk, anything else is just out of sheer excitement. If someone knows there's no significance behind it, then I'll be against it. In my point of view, though, there is some real reason for doing it. Whether it be family or something else, I have no problem with the salute.
Also, I think JP will get even better, and could be a draftee next year...

Guys I heard this on sports talk this morning and I actually agree with it; I think JP has the most potential on this team for the NBA. I think he would make it as a slasher-type. I know I may get a few laughs for that but the kid is an outstanding athlete and has only gotten better since he arrived at UT. This kid has a good future ahead of him if he continues to follow what Coach Pearl says.

JP is a conundrum b/c he's so gifted and yet sometimes plays like he's asleep.

There are few guys who can dribble and pass as smoothly as a guy with his length and bounce can. And so we think, "Gee, he should be dominating like this every game."

He can go lazy in a flash, and I think we're quick to harp on it in part b/c we know he's capable of so much more when he focuses. And when he does, it's pretty awesome to watch.

One other point, about his defense -- let's not forget that defense is a team effort too. Not all points his man scores are entirely his fault.

Interesting that when Dane was on the Sports Animal a while back he talked about how frustrating it was to play with Prince, realizing that if he worked as hard as Dane or Lofton did, he could be a special player. I think he leans on his athleticism too much.

Price was GREAT last night and you can tell that he was having fun playing at the level he is capable of. I still would like to see a shift in his chest bump to points ratio though. WAY to much celebration last night... plenty of time to celebrate after the game or the season better yet.

Agreed. I don't like it when players celebrate after a basket unless there is a pause in the action. Otherwise they've made themselves a huge liability on the defensive end of the next play. Otherwise, a heck of a game by Prince.

These guys aren't robots, and we can't expect them all to respond to good plays the way we THINK they should. It just doesn't work that way. Maybe it's poor sportsmanship, but I even question that, and wonder how much I really care about it anyhow.

If a guy feels a surge of energy coarse through him after a one-handed follow-up dunk, he'll just naturally express that energy with fist pumps or a frenzied jump. Micromanaging to the point where we're saying "if JP can just stop acting excited after he gets in position for the airball, rebounds it back up, makes the bucket, and draws the foul...then I think he'll improve," is probably being too nitpicky.
