Recruiting Forum Football Talk IX

Man, coach H has had a rough couple of weeks. Not doom and gloom but these have been guys we certainly wanted.

Not a real endearing week for DB's with new staff that we were told could recruit to NFL pedigree, now its we are going to focus on transfers. What happens when the results arent there in the porthole? Last year was the best recruiting class we've had in a long time.

Why cant we seem to hold any momentum?

So, just by default any player who doesn't pick us is an obvious future NFL player? Sure Jan.

Who did we miss on? A high school player? I'm no longer phased by where a 17yo decides to play college football at, since they will likely be somewhere else in 12 months. . .

. . .unless it's DGG. If he goes somewhere else, engage full panic mode.

the counterpoint is we will have more money to spend in porthole. color me skeptical that will happen to a level to win an SEC Title. Could be wrong but think you gotta be good at both.

Ill wait and see but invol is getting the word processor warmed up

I don't think you have to be great at hs recruiting anymore, as long as you're getting the real game-changer hs players. Take maybe 10-12 of the best hs players you can get and make the rest juco/portal studs with 2-3 years left.

agreed. guess I feel like we're too passive in porthole. seems like we fold too often, and overpay others.

have i mentioned defensive tackles?

my point about the hole is everyone else and their mothers is chasing the same monsters around the same section of river. only difference with porthole fishing season is all other season are closed. and if the fish aren't on the stringer, you're left with nothing

Hell of a windy night here. I'm in about as protected Anchorage as one can be but were getting 15-18 sustained and gust to 25. Anchor holding but may be long night. Tide changes at 12:30am which adds a dynamic. Wind and current are the same now. Current will be 180 degrees of wind. Got me a tad nervous. Got the anchor alarm set. I'm a few rum punches in though. Beautiful night other than the wind.

Ark has our number in baseball, but I don’t care too much because how many natties they got? 😂
And only 1 SEC title to our 5 lmao. And they always benefit from playing our more flawed teams. They got the fortune of playing us in both ‘23 and ‘25 in Fayetteville while avoiding us altogether in ‘22 and ‘24, which were clearly Tony’s most elite teams. They did beat us 3/4 in 2021 so I’ll give em that.

its one or the other. pitching is crap, or offense. Really hard for us to put together a complete game.
Call me crazy but it looked to me like Elander didn't really care about today's game. Sort of felt like he would prefer to get the team rested up and get ready for regionals. Some weird pitching choices if he was really trying to win. It seemed like the game was meaningless in where we go in the tournament. Just my opinion.

Dude...the Heup and staff has decided that we are not going to get in bidding wars for boys that aren't going to do anything but play STs and 3rd-4th string for 2 years anymore...in this new mercenary world it is really STUPID to do so. Look at all the dudes that just transferred out after doing almost nothing big (boys like Boo, Ross and Gibson etc etc etc etc) to earn the HUGE money they got to sign, and then to stay after their FR year despite not really earning it...If..IF..we get in a bidding war over a kid from now on, you can KNOW that it is a kid that the staff thinks is a bona fide big timer that WILL add instant value to the team ON THE FIELD...a kid Like...DGG.

I for one an extremely glad for this shift....now pay attention, all the locals are saying this is the new direction. There is zero reason to give money away to clip board holders and bench warmers. And especially with the complexity of this defense, it is completely asinine imo to spend big money on HS DBs unless they are those extremely rare dudes that are just auto superstars.

This is the new paradigm...get used to it. HS recruiting classes just are not going to get the majority of the big money from us anymore. We are going to focus on a few big timers, roster retention and transfers.
