Chaz Coleman's future remains uncertain (CBS)

Lock him in a training room all day with Coach Owings and Coach Garner and, at the end of the day, if 3 men come out we've got something. If 2 men come out, we don't.

We tried to accommodate the young man but there comes a time when push comes to shove and I think Coach Garner and Coach Owings can settle things real quick and in a hurry.

Sometimes the kind coddling just doesn't get it done. Dude never had any intention of playing here. I hope we sue for the apparent $200K he did get and draw a hard line. These kids need to be put in the back seat instead of the drivers seat.

We actually don't know what his issues were. If he had been insolent like Boo, I think Coach Heupel would've been done already with him. If he'd been holding us up over money, I think he'd be gone already.

I think he has issues. He can't play anywhere except UT this year, so he loses a year AND gets a "what happened in 2026 question?" if he ever gets to the next level.

Yeah, yeah, he may have gotten a hunk of money for doing nothing but he won't come out of this smelling good either.

200k will buy a helluva lotta deodorant tho.

In the scheme of things, missing out on at least another 750k+ (assuming at least a million a year) AND losing a year playing is not a good look nor idea for his future.

He's going to have to work extra hard at (assuming) tOSU to prove himself to to NFL. He may ball out and meet his potential but he's made his trip to the next level, which is not easy even for the most gifted athletes, even harder.

It's not a win. $200-250k may seem like a lot of money but given his gifts, he has several million in his future IF he's not a head case or slacker.

Right now, he's a head case or slacker.

It's hard for me to be concerned about someone that never played a down here or ever even showed he was a legitimate star.

It obviously hurts the depth, as he was someone we were counting on. But he may never have amounted to much even if his head was in the right place.
Agreed. But he clearly had potential, and I think this is what Knowles was banking on. This young man played multiple positions in HS, and was good at all of them. He has what it takes to be great as an edge rusher.

All he needed was time, coaching, and commitment. He had the first two. Apparently, he lacked the last. Who knows what he might have done at UT?

Water under the bridge.

So we move on.

It won’t set a good example to cater and coddle a guy while the others are working out and doing what they are supposed too. Why keep a guy that doesn’t show up. The players have lost interest in him, sure he may have all the talent in the world abd it doesn’t mean a hill of beans if you are not willing to put in the work. This isn’t sounding like a situation where we are rallying behind a player hurt that wants to be here or a player going through a family crisis. Even if he had vertigo he could stay in contact with the coaches and at least be there. This just doesn’t seem to be as much about vertigo as it does attitude and drama.

Just a little reminder context:

When's the last time--before or since NIL--that you heard of a highly desired player with great potential not showing up like this? It's pretty darn rare, right?

So let's wait 'til we know what has happened with (or to) Chaz before we make a judgement.

We also need to remind ourselves that coaches make a personal commitment to players and their families to take care of their boy's health, and to mentor them into manhood. NIL has not changed that relationship, however much we fans want to now treat them as semi-professionals.

I once had to request out of a commitment to a group of young men that I loved dearly because of something that happened to me--something that years later I still can't explain. At the time I thought I must have suffered a stroke, because I suddenly couldn't even remember my players' names (some of whom I'd known all their lives), let alone what the day's practice plans were. Unpredictable stuff can happen to anyone, regardless of their devotion, commitment, or character.

We're all going to need some mercy and understanding at some time in our lives.

That kind of ROI makes the federal govt look like investment wizards. Has the kid lifted a finger, much less a weight, since he signed on with UT to earn any part of $200k?
i agree but its the world they live in. He’s been paid 10% of the contract thus far which could have been 50% by now.

And people who are much closer to the program say it's <25k.

So many people hate NIL and are simply looking for reasons to get their panties in a wad over any perceived abuse by players.

CC may or may not have serious issues with his mental health and until CJH and company make a decision on him there is no teason for a fan to be pissed off.
It’s hard to find anyone closer to SEC programs than Chris Low. I’m not a fan but he is major connected.

I'm sympathetic to what you're saying though it's possible that we may never hear what was the issue whether he returns or not. It may be, as your issue sounds, a very private and personal matter that can't fully be discussed or needs not be publicly discussed.
