Transfer Portal Opens June 1 (Monday)

Nah. I wouldn’t go that far…I will just say he could have been a better teammate but he wasn’t Maui Ahuna either. Granted Stone set the elite teammate bar ridiculously high.

We’ll always have his massive home run against Wake Forest in the Regionals last year. Will never forget the pure joy on his face as he rounded the bases. Hate that he didn’t take the extra step this year I thought he would.

He wore more protective gear than a storm trooper. No offense to the kid, but he was the epitome of a beta male. Watch the Ole Miss and Auburn Game and you’ll see the type of player we need.

Interesting. So, he's not necessarily going pro, and may end up going elsewhere.

I don't think I like that.

Wonder what his reasoning is? Money or he just doesn't like it here?
Hopefully it’s because he’s being replaced with a better prospect. I’ve never understood the love affair with him. Been trying to tell yall for weeks he isn’t a good pro prospect!

I hadn't checked the fielding percentages, it seems you are quite correct. I would be curious to see what the percentages would be if both had a similar number of chances. I think a better way of stating my original statement is that AA is a more talented fielder with a higher ceiling defensively, MM may have a higher floor especially with regard to consistency.

Regardless of the stats and fielding ability comparison, we need a couple more shortstops. If it was an E decision, hopefully it was due to confidence in getting an upgrade or two as opposed to having to due to too high an NIL request.
% means he would commit more errors, that’s the whole point of %; to compare two things that aren’t of equal opportunities.

He’s a career .290 hitter in only 2 seasons DESPITE having a terrible chase and whiff rate on top of being an above avg defender; that’s why he’s a legit pro prospect. An organization will believe they have the ability to improve his approach and his patience. The tools are there, it’s honing in the mental aspect of hitting.

If he were a good pro prospect he’d be going pro. He chokes in big moments and he’s slow for his size. He brings nothing exceptional to the table.

I liked MM. He was better than people are acting. Solid player. Significantly better than Ant. Not even a comparison really. TV and E both agree.
Think he was worse than everyone acts tbh. Very talented in the field but not good offensively. Chases everything. Lazy on the basepaths. Not that good of a teammate. He’s an SEC caliber starting player which is difficult to let out the door, but he’s also a bottom 3 hitter on a good team and should be replaceable with an upgrade

I was high on manny after his freshman year but he just never took that next step in my option. The chase rate was outrageous. Curious though, is Elander known as a big recruiter? How much did he have to do with recruiting when Tony was here? I’m genuinely not aware
Recruiting coordinator and was very involved in getting most of the big stars to campus during the Tony era here. Obviously Tony was a great closer and played a big role too

The one I don’t get is Evan Hankins. He tore his ACL early in the year that kept him out. So it’s not as if his lack of playing had to do with his ability your lack thereof. He simply wasn’t available.
34 man roster. Hes not gonna play fall ball, and probably wouldn’t be able to play the full season. Can’t use roster spots on guys who aren’t gonna contribute and aren’t freshmen. It’s partially his decision too. Some ACC school will prob love to let him rehab on their roster and pay him to do so to get the upside swing

Samford OF Jake Souders

Souders was on campus for an official visit on Thursday. He’s also visited Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama. Those are the four teams in contention for now and a decision could come as soon as this next week. Volquest was told Tennessee showed well during the visit.
Souders hit .342 with 19 homers and 92 RBIs in 113 games in two seasons at Samford. He scored 99 runs, hit 26 doubles and stole 31 bases. He has slashed .342/.411/.538 in two seasons.
Souders was named first-team All-SoCon following a standout season at Samford in 2026 when he slashed .356/.431/.575 with 11 homers and 46 RBIs in 56 games. The outfielder logged 13 doubles over 219 at-bats. He also was named All-Freshman SoCon in a 2025 campaign in which he hit .327 with eight home runs in 57 games.

Mercer INF/RHP Braydon Kersey

Kersey was on campus for an official visit on Friday. As of Friday evening, Kersey had no other visits scheduled but told Volquest he would take his time.
Kersey is an infielder and a right-handed pitcher, who could be a two-way player for the Vols. He is a finalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year. He was honored as first-team All-SoCon as a designated hitter.
The athlete hit .325 with 21 homers and 67 RBIs in 2026. The left-handed hitter ranked second in the SoCon in homers and RBIs in a breakout offensive season.
He pitched in 45 games in two seasons with a 5-4 record and a 4.97 ERA. He started nine games, but has mostly been a reliever. The Alpharetta, Georgia, native saved six games in 2026.
Kersey pitched 50.2 innings in 2025 before pitching 20 innings in 2026 with a defined bullpen role.

Northwestern State LHP Brody Trosclair

Trosclair is scheduled to be on campus for a visit with Tennessee baseball on Sunday.
Trosclair shined as a freshman at Northwestern State with a 5-1 record and a 1.89 ERA in 10 appearances with four starts. The southpaw logged 38 innings of work, struck out 55 and walked 11. Opponents tallied a .222 batting average against him. The freshman allowed just eight extra base hits in 2026.
The rookie was named the 2026 Southland Conference Freshman of the Year and First-Team All-Southland Conference Pitcher. The pitcher was unscored upon in his first five relief appearances and did not allow an earned run in 13 2-3 innings of relief work.
He suffered a season-ending injury in April.

Air Force 2B Wyatt Hanoian

Hanoian is scheduled to be on campus for a visit on Monday.
Hanoian slashed .357/.498/.573 as a freshman second baseman at Air Force, earning Mountain West freshman of the year honors. The 5-foot-9 Hanoian walked 32 times and was hit by 24 pitches while striking out only 21 times.
The switch-hitting Hanoian had 24 extra-base hits with six homers, four triples and 14 doubles. He is a draft-eligible sophomore in 2027.

He’d be a perfect candidate for the exemption spot.
