colby wooden received a scholarship offer from tennessee in december, less than a week after new coach jeremy pruitts hiring, and he visited the vols for the first time earlier this month. Just three weeks later, wooden decided to make the trip again.
The three-star junior defensive end from archer high school in lawrenceville, ga., said he enjoyed his latest visit to tennessee on saturday for its first junior day of the year, and the vols now are one of five teams standing out to him, along with auburn, georgia, clemson and florida state. theyre up there, said wooden. ive definitely got a few standouts. Theyre up there with them. id have to say my best top five would be auburn, georgia, clemson, tennessee and florida state, in no particular order.
the 6-foot-4, 230-pound wooden accompanied teammates andrew booth, jalyn phillips and braylen weems all of whom are rated four-star prospects in the 247sports composite on the trip to tennessee. He said his teammates wanted to go visit, but he also went back to knoxville because i liked the first visit on feb. 3. i found out that they were interested in me, so i put equal interest in them. I was excited, wooden said, referring to the offer he picked up from the vols on dec. 12.
the jersey part was a fun part, as well as seeing the facilities and training rooms and all of that stuff, said wooden, who holds offers from more than 20 schools, including georgia, auburn, clemson, florida state, michigan and south carolina. id say i spent the most time with coach sherrer and coach rumph. Those were two that stood out. They were fun.
i enjoy speaking to all the coaches, wooden said. just love that they all speak honesty and the truth. They didnt feed me crap, so i definitely appreciate that. he said he definitely plans to visit tennessee again, perhaps as early as this spring. ill probably be here for the spring game or spring practice, wooden said.
Wooden also visited georgia on jan. 27 and auburn on feb. 17. He said he doesnt know yet where he might visit next. For now, hes not planning to decide on a college any time soon. ill be waiting awhile, wooden said.
