’14 GA ATH Elliott Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

- 247

He talked to a lot of recruits at camp, but they didn't talk to him about committing. He said that not a lot of other schools are recruiting him. He believes its because schools think he's a lock to UT. Sounded like he wanted to be recruited by other schools, and I don't blame him.

I hope they are part of the class. If they want to wait, we'll see if they end up with a spot or not. As long as the coaches keep them informed and give them the chance to take a spot before they are all gone, I am fine with it. Much like Truitt, if they decide to keep playing the recruiting game, that's their choice. The class will fill up with them or w/out them.

Might end up a brutal lesson on this level of recruiting...legacy or no legacy :hmm:

I dont think they want to tip their hand before they have to.

They are very private, and the best part about both of them is when they get on campus, you see where they are needed and fit best and they have the athletic ability to probably play there.

it probably will take someone else recruiting them for a bit just so they can see the options....

I'm still convinced there will be a spot for them and that they will commit sooner rather than later. They probably just want a little attention from other schools to make sure they're not just doing what's expected.

As for Coach Zs tweet when I saw it I immediately thought

"Brick by Berrys!"

but it was probably more like a cheer kind of thing asking his followers to tweet back BRICK!

Just my take. :peace2:

As a big bro, I can't see Eric allowing them to go elsewhere. Not because the family UT tie...but because anyone with a brain can see Knoxville is where it's at right now. Butch is about to kick some serious arse. And they can only be on one of two sides of that equation. Lol

I hear you, but one quick note. Truitt wasn't playing the recruiting game. He didn't want to play CB. He was set on playing WR, and given the format of our recruiting board, we weren't really able to consider him at WR. So, we moved on.

I remember seeing some people said that about him wanting to play offense. I also remember him tweeting something about him and another CB being lockdown corners. That is what made me think he was at least open to the idea of playing on defense. I myself liked him on offense and at RB better.

What the hell is playing the recruiting game? Its the most important decision of their lives .

If it goes past nsd, so what. Its theirs to make and hardly a game.

Just bc young men dont commit when you want to doesnt make it a "game"

Sidenote,
Its Eric Berry day at creekside hs

And if I were a coach I would allow them to make that decision. I would however NOT turn away other talented kids who would be able to play the same position while I wait on them to come to a decision. I gave a few names earlier I think would fit into that group. I am sure there are a lot more. If Lammons and Smith called this afternoon ready to commit, I would place 1 call to the Berry household and give them chance to take those 2 spots. IF they were not ready, I would wish them the best of luck. 20 spots open? Not a concern. 2 spots left? Tough decisions have to be made. JMO

Completely agree, but there are definitely circumstances where the recruits "have fun" with the process. It's the context, I believe, that people need to understand. It is definitely not a game; however, there is no harm in "having fun" with the process, and it is that notion that gets translated through the media to the public.

I tend to agree with this approach. The Berry household knows what Tennessee has to offer. Based on that alone, they should have an idea on their decision. Again, I believe this is a "terms" situation. They want their commitment to be made on their terms. Not everyone else's.

While that would be about the greatest thing in so many ways, I don't believe it's going to happen. Either they will commit pretty soon, or they could very well be left out.

If they do not come here, it will be their decision. We will save them a spot and want them. Butch knows that would not be a smart move to ruin relationship with Berry family.

If CBJ calls and gives them a chance to commit before filling the last spots he has not ruined anything. I agree if the Berrys choose not to commit right then IF they get that call, then THEY have decided not to be Vols.

They are silent commits. We know, and it has been confirmed, that silent commits exist. We ASS-u-me that there are 5, 6, or 7 spots left, when in all likelihood there may be only 1 or 2. There is a reason that Vic and the others are not really pressing them, they may already know.

No way the twins aren't Vols. Shocked some of you even bother arguing otherwise. They'll announce when they're ready but they were born to be Vols and Butch isn't going to leave them out of the Rise to the Top Legacy Class. He's just not.

I think we assume that they are silent commits. I hope they are, but we will find out if this class fills up and they aren't a part of it.

I agree, just a matter of when not if.

This right here. I almost think some want them to get looked over so they can be right. The Matthews Brothers are good examples IMO. One was a walk on at USC, he's now arguably the best defensive player in the league. His brother was a lil' ole 5.7 3* who was a key starter on Oregon's national runner up team. They're football players from a football family....it's in there blood. Same with the Berrys. You can't turn your nose up at these kids.
