’14 GA ATH Elliott Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

This right here. I almost think some want them to get looked over so they can be right. The Matthews Brothers are good examples IMO. One was a walk on at USC, he's now arguably the best defensive player in the league. His brother was a lil' ole 5.7 3* who was a key starter on Oregon's national runner up team. They're football players from a football family....it's in there blood. Same with the Berrys. You can't turn your nose up at these kids.

I in no way want to look over the Berry twins. Aside from Bates, I would trade ANY (2) current commits we have for the twins if that's what it took to get them committed today. The numbers worry me. I hope it all works out and they are in orange come NSD.

No way the twins aren't Vols. Shocked some of you even bother arguing otherwise. They'll announce when they're ready but they were born to be Vols and Butch isn't going to leave them out of the Rise to the Top Legacy Class. He's just not.

Exactly what I was trying to say. It is not even the start of the season either, so Butch is not even close to getting to a point where he would say " now or never". Imagine him telling Eric Berry, "SORRY, I wait on noone".

But we originally thought Bates was gonna announce at an all star game. I don't remember people saying he better get on board or get left out.

I think CBJ has already allotted two scholarships for these kids. So the #s as you and I see them, scrap that...minus two from that IMO. Cause I think it would take them calling Butch and saying we're going to x school for him to give their scholly to someone else.

I'm not sure he would accept that. IMO he'd just break out more sauce.

These kids just want to be courted by other schools to go through the recruiting experience just like the rest other recruits. I think most everyone knows where they're going to end up when it's all said and done.

And didn't someone say that Eric waited until later in the process because he wanted to get some of his teammates in the spotlight? Eric committed in December if I remember correctly, but I didn't follow recruiting in 2006. Was he considered a lock?

Question: What other college are the Berry's visiting? I know they say that no one else is working them hard, but that doesn't stop them from going and visiting them.

Even J Hurd and TKJ? People are getting carried away over their last name. They will be a good pick up but there are several players that are better out of our commits and targets. If they want to be here they better be silent commits or commit soon. We are not going to turn away or rescind offers to five and four star players for two good but not elite prospects. Berry name or not.

Really?! They are actually very good ball players, they just happen to be on a bad team. CBJ is preaching family and how important family is. Why would he close the door on third generation players that come from a UT family. Let them enjoy their process and stop being so absolute about everything. You only get recruited once. Let them enjoy the experience.

Loyalty is everything, you DO NOT turn your back on family and the Berry twins ARE family it would be a travesty for them to wind up somewhere else and goes against everything CBJ has been preaching to put us back on top.
These young men belong in Orange...and will be.

still, there’s no doubt that tennessee will save spots for elliott and evan berry — they remain high priorities for the vols, and they were back on campus over the weekend. But it appears tennessee, which remains no. 1 in 247sports’ team recruiting rankings, might have only a handful of spots remaining heading into this season.

Absurd. They clearly can see that our class is filling up with very highly ranked players. If they continue to hold off committing and we continue to receive commitments from additional highly ranked players thus leaving no room, that is on them. Not Butch Jones.

JJ McCleskey said today that watching camp Evan Berry was a guy that stood out to him

Yes, he said that he was very impressed with Evan also the Dual Threat QB Miami commit Alin Edouard. Said that he would fit Jones' system and he could throw an accurate well timed ball.

Ridiculous.

You, nor anyone else here has any clue if that is true or not.

No one does. But given CBJ's track record with the current process. And the attitude and words that he is speaking, I will err on the side of the Berry's having a spot waiting on them.

Butch won't recruit other players for their spots because he knows they'll be Vols

All be it they do have a spot reserved because they are legacies. But if Lorenzo Williams and Blair want to commit and we only have 2 spots. I hate to say it but he would give those spots up. That is recruiting for ya. Legacy or not

That is how I expected it would work. As long as the twins get on board rather sooner, they should have a spot. If they wait till 2-3 spots left, they could very well be left out.

Would also like to know what the plan is with Dews. Is he a sure GS? Is he a sure scholarship? Does it depend on who tries to commit? Would the staff take it all the way to NSD before making a decision on him?

Poster on VQ asked...

"Elliot Berry, seems pretty clear he's the lesser talented of the two brothers. Would you say he's an SEC caliber player? He isn't that much bigger than Evan and certainly not as fast, so I'm wondering if he's a guy that we would take over a Patera or Clif Garrett if spots got real tight?"

Both Berry brothers are takes, regardless of others.

Agree 100%. Both kids are takes right now. Would I say no to a Garrett, Lammons, Smith, or Williams to save them a spot if I am down to my last 2 spots so they can seek out more attention from other schools?? I don't think I would.
