’14 GA ATH Elliott Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

The returns on Eric Berry actively campaigning for your program are worth taking a slightly less talented player one time, if Elliott really is not good as some on here say.

I've said it before, but I don't think Butch can afford not to take the twins, regardless of the circumstances. Family and tradition are just a couple of things Butch knew he had to market in order to have a chance with all the legacies. Without the legacies, lets face it...this class would blow right now. Imo, I believe two spots are reserved for the twins no matter who comes along. They are of Vol lineage, character kids, and good players. How good? We'll all know in a couple of years. I think the return on the investment will pay big in the end. Jmo

Ridiculous.

You, nor anyone else here has any clue if that is true or not.

That's the point of this message board, to discuss what we THINK. I don't think I have to put "IMO" after everything I say for you to understand its my opinion.

I believe they have spots reserved for them no matter how long they take, and I also believe Butch feels fairly confident they are Vols.

Now if some high caliber recruit wants to commit but we are low on spots, you take them and figure out the numbers another way. But the Berry twins won't have their spot taken from them.

Honestly it feels like the Berry twins were where the beginning of the legacy class talk started from. We knew of them almost 6 years ago

Absurd. They clearly can see that our class is filling up with very highly ranked players. If they continue to hold off committing and we continue to receive commitments from additional highly ranked players thus leaving no room, that is on them. Not Butch Jones.

First I think they are silent, second it is more important to say to Berry family they are family and will be treated as such then to risk having bad relationship imo.

They are legacy and family. Things that CBJ holds important. They are Vols if they choose to be.

I don't think this is true. Needs are too numerous to wait on a pair of prospects. There will be a point where they have to commit or they may lose that opportunity. I think it will be way before signing day.

Just curious about the silent part. If they are silent commitments to Tennessee, why go on the record in an interview asking for other schools to recruit you?

Just for clarification, I spent some time trying to find Elliott's time in the 100 and it looks like he runs a 10.8 so not like he's fat and slow... He probably still runs in the low 4.5's or high 4.4's on his 40.

Evan is the reigning GA state champ in the 100. I used to fall into that way of thinking until I started looking at his numbers, but just because Elliott isn't as fast as Evan doesn't mean he's a bum.

Still think he's a nickel CB or SS rather than a LB, but that's just me.

You are thinking short term, relationship with Berry family and any legacy is more important. Second, players currently on roster leave and a couple may grey shirt. Butch will figure it out.

That is how I expected it would work. As long as the twins get on board rather sooner, they should have a spot. If they wait till 2-3 spots left, they could very well be left out.

Would also like to know what the plan is with Dews. Is he a sure GS? Is he a sure scholarship? Does it depend on who tries to commit? Would the staff take it all the way to NSD before making a decision on him?

He is a sure GS if other things work out as planned about Barnett and the Berry brothers. No the staff would be up front with him on a possible GS and I think he is fine with that or that is what I gather

Ainge said on the radio he thinks they are trying to get more exposure for their teammates at their high school. He also said that most schools believe they are locks for UT so they haven't had a ton of schools after them.

Eric did the same for his teammates when he was there, so I can see this as a possibility.

Thanks for the response. I am fine with GS the kid, I just would rather not see them take it all the way to NSD and then leave him in a bad spot if he does not want to GS. Sooner they decide what they are going to do with him the better. At least give him time to consider options if all we have available is a GS.

Think about that for a second.

They are not committing to UT in hopes of getting some attention for their teammates. Yet no other schools are recruiting them because schools feel they are UT locks. Sounds like a well thought out plan to me.

Greyshirting the kid takes a spot from 15. Looks like we're in on a lot of talented kids with limited spots. I'd rather just have him as part of this class if the coaches think he has the skills.

Your welcome. I dont think this staff would leave anyone in a bad spot.

Makes sense as to them saying they want to look at more schools. If they give the impression they are open, then more schools will look. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if Butch knows this and is honoring their request to hold off on committing now, hence a silent.

These brothers are putting their teammates both present and future first. They are trying to get exposure to their current school. They are not out there camping at other schools, which is why they are only 4* and 3 *. If they were trying to go somewhere other than UT, they would be at these camps ripping it up and they would be both high 4* recruits. I believe they are silent to UT and when the time is right, the exposure will be there for their current high school and the University of Tennessee. Let time tell, and only good things to come!
