’14 GA ATH Elliott Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

I agree, and one thing against Elliot is that he's a bit of a tweener. He doesn't have the ideal size for a LB, which everyone projects he will play in college. He's listed at 5'11" 191lbs. Sounds like a safety to me.

Ryan C. noted yesterday that the staff is looking at him to be an immediate impact at the nickel LB position, which is actually a spot where we need a lot of help.

They are very good athletes. Idk why ppl keep questioning that. Elliot is probably more like 6'0. Eric is 5'11 and he's a little taller than him. Don't get too wrapped up in that stuff. Denzel Nkemdiche plays OLB type spot for Ole Miss and he's 5'10 198lbs. Very realistic for Elliot to play that kind of spot at more like 210lbs. I'll take it. The brothers will def contribute. Evan has gamebreaker potential.

I think Elliot would be great at S. Even if he adds 10-15lbs, he could still be great on the back end of the defense.

Yep, they're both SEC quality athletes all day long as their offer lists clearly shows. People are getting caught up in our no. 1 rated class like we can turn away good SEC caliber 3 star kids.

Exactly

Elliot is a SEC caliber player and high 3 star player

Evan is a phenomenal athlete and 4 star talent. 247 and ESPN got that right with him

People need to quit questioning their talent bc they clearly have it.

I agree, they are great athletes. Their offer lists speak for themselves.

I'm not sure the Ole Miss example is applicable here. Ole Miss plays a different defensive scheme (4-2-5). Like it or not, but if his listed measurables are remotely accurate, that's a size of a typical safety.

Who exactly is saying we can or could turn them away?

I have been of the opinion that they are takes. I do think they need to go ahead and lock up their spots. If they wait till there are 2-3 spots left and other highly rated guys want those spots, I think it puts the coaches in a bad position. Can CBJ tell top DB's or DT's no while he waits for the twins to try and get some pub for their teammates? I don't think it would be wise.

There are so many players that we want and think we have a legitimate shot with that even having as many as 30 or 31 spots just isn't going to cut it this year. Amazing. We want a couple more OLinemen, three DLineman, at least one more cornerback, and everyone else that wants to come that we may not have room for. More importantly we definitely want to hold on to everybody we already have.

We have a lot of needs on our roster, some yet to be adequately addressed, but in the end just as every other team does, we'll go with what we get and what we've got. And this year that's a lot.

There are two ways to boom the hell out of VN on NSD. One is the proverbial "surprise" get(s) and this year it could be the completion of the Legacy class with the LOI's of VN's most favored twins. Imagine you are one of the twins being a part of such an orchestration. It had to be somewhat of an experience for Dillon just to hold out as long as he did, knowing full well it was a secret that most everyone was desperate to hear.

I'd like to see them in orange, but does anyone on here who's saying they're great have a reason other than a 100m time and their last name?

They have offers but said no one is recruiting them. No camps. Short highlights against mediocre competition. What makes you all so certain they're SEC material? Anyone seen them play?

Well Evan just stood out at our camp this past weekend. They are major athletes, I am going to guess they have football skill, but I haven't seen them play. Nobody is recruiting them just because they feel they are locks for UT.

I can't see someone sucking at football with this kind of athletic ability and a father who played at UT and a pro bowl brother. Some football ability had to be passed down.

I have seen them as I live in the area. Evan is pretty damn good with the ball in his hands. He can absolutely fly. I think he would be pretty dynamic getting the ball in space and as a kick return man. So yes I think their SEC level. It's not really a question IMO. They live in the same area as Cam Sutton. Same competition. No, Creekside (Berrys HS) is not a powerhouse but why question the competition? It's Atlanta area football.

Have you seen who's offered them? The fact they have so offers from all the quality SEC programs should tell you something. And it's been said by both twins that all the other programs haven't been recruiting them as hard because everyone feels they are Vol locks.

Thanks for the answers.

I hadn't heard anything about their camp performance.

And on the recruitment, one of them said they guessed they weren't being recruited because coaches thought they were UT. Coaches recruit guys who are committed/locks up till signing every year. It could be just as likely their offers aren't commitable.

I'll say again, I'd like to have the twins. I'm just not as certain about their abilities as some of you seem to be.

IMO if you're not very certain on Evans talent then you seriously could question Josh Smith, Devrin Young, Foreman, and many many others on our roster. Point is, all those guys I named can play ball and so can the Berrys.

The difference is that none of those guys got the "we will absolutely make room for him" treatment that the Berrys get.

Let JRM show him the ropes there.
