’14 GA DB Evan Berry (UT Signee 2/5/14)

Size-Strength-Speed
Has a thick, sturdy build with adequate height. Might not have the height to add too much more bulk. Shows very good initial quickness to evade the rush and makes a lot of plays with his legs.

Ball Skills
Possess natural ball skills and makes plays after the catch. Can pluck and quickly reach top speed quickly.

Versatility
A safety playing as a Wildcat QB and offensive weapon who is extremely productive. A playmaker under center and in the slot, but he has upside to develop on defense despite limited snaps there. Serviceable in the passing game to keep you guessing, but his feet are why he is at QB. A bit of a short-strider, and while it does not hinder his lateral agility in a short space, it could be a transition issue for him on defense if matched up vs. quicker and more fluid slots and backs from a safety position. Might end up as a strong safety/hybrid type.

Big Play Ability
Works out of the shotgun and as a runner he is very dangerous. Shows some sudden change-of-direction given his size and is elusive on the perimeter because he possesses a live arm that is capable of making throws across his body and downfield on the run. Can create on the fly when things break down and will show flashes of making very impressive plays in the passing game when you think you have him corralled. Once he gets into the open field he has shown he can be a home run threat and runs fairly well.

Bottom Line
Berry is an upside guy on defense with more definitive offensive traits now due to experience. Solid prospect with some exciting traits that will garner BCS interest. We need to further investigate defensive reps and production as the bulk of his game comes on offense.

Sounds like Randall Cobb.

Tennessee has the best fans in the nation.

How many times has he sat in a sea of 100,000+ orange-clad fans chanting "Er-ic Ber-ry" - even when we had nothing more than Eric to make us cheer? This kid knows UT fans are loyal (unlike the Tide fans during the Mike, Mike, Mike years).

You know the Berry brothers are all Vol. Butch changed that vibe immediately with big brother. Then when Trooper left the Barn and Thig/Martinez/Gillespie hit Rocky Top, it was all over. Now if you have to worry, just worry about one OT and 2-3 D-line. And I really wouldn't worry about that either.

"It was fun," Evan Berry said. "It's always fun going up to Knoxville. They always treat us like family. The coaches show us a lot of love and it's just a lot of fun."

"He's (Butch Freakin Jones) always excited about something," Evan Berry said. "No matter what it is, he's excited. He's obviously passionate about the game of football. He takes it serious, but he knows how to have fun."

"We honestly haven't worked like this in the last three years," Evan Berry said. "I'm expecting different results as far as how far we go into the playoffs and how we work as a team."

"As you see people come out with their own opinions even when they don't know you," Evan Berry said. "I try to work hard to prove them wrong. It's something that drives us both. Everyone is good in college, but that's where the work ethic comes in to play. We are both driven to be the best we can be."

I chatted up Evan for a bit while he was here, very nice kid and looks EXACTLY like Eric, only a bit smaller. He obviously loves it here, but like what's been reported he said he and his brother would probably wait a while before doing anything. While I still believe they end up at UT, I'm still blown away that they haven't committed yet. These are two guys that you would think would have jumped on board early.

Creepy, old man stalker!

We need this guy at corner, he has to understand that.

We need to realize as fans that he has the ability to play multiple positions. I personally think they aren't rated higher only because they play multiple positions to help their team. There are some players (Even some 5*s) that would like the opportunity to playing an offensive position versus the position they could be a natural at. I say give them that chance. We need as many athletes on the team as possible. If it is proven that they're better at another position then they will get moved. No harm done. Just my :twocents:.

Have to agree with this. Just get them in Orange and figure out where they will play later. I'm sure the coaches already have a good idea of where they end up.
