Good player. Tricky player. Fast player. 2022 and beyond- never got a chance to get in her groove and contribute her talent to the team. Watched this wonderful young woman at numerous National ID camps and was always impressed. Someone tell the SEC that not all soccer player have to be 6' tall weigh 160lbs! Speed will always rule the day in this sport. Hope she gets some opportunity for her last year! Memphis is top shelf.

Yes and no. Penn State lost, I believe, four or five good/very good multi-year starters from last year's team. The had 4 players drafted in the first 2 rounds of the NWSL draft (among the top 22), and a 5th player drafted in the 3rd round. So they lost a big chunk of veteran talent that will not be easily replaced this year. But it's also true that Penn State almost always has a top 5 recruiting class, so they won't lack for talent. I don't think PSU has been a big player in the portal in recent years--but brought in 3/4 transfers this year, perhaps to bolster what could be something of a transition year, by their standards. It will be interesting to see how Fusco fits in there. She certainly has left a big hole in our lineup. Like so many of the top programs, the Nittany Lions have an excellent coach who's been there a long time.

Hope this change helps her attitude and rejuvenates her drive! I bet she plays, a lot.

Totally agree. Not playing Easkin hardly at all in 2 years was just another of the bonehead personnel decisions by Kirt. She would have been better than Nelson on the wing in '22 because of her speed and dribbling ability--she could cover more ground, more quickly--and that's important when you've got length of the field responsibilities. She played some on the wing the year before and was effective. Nelson was a player with obvious pace and other limitations---hard worker on the field, for sure, very diligent--but Kirt's loyalty to her did not help us win games. I think Eskin got a few minutes at forward last year very early in the season, against OOC opponents--but forward is //not// a good position for her. Interesting that Eskin--who was almost invisible for 2 years--would end up with a legit top 20 program whle Katz, a good player who started for 2 or 3 years--lands at Furman. It may not be easy to for Eskin to get PT with a talented Memphis roster, but I hope she does. Assuming she's healthy, Katz should have no trouble starting for the Purple Palladins!

Maybe she developed a bit of an attitude because of what we've seen from the team over the last 2 years--and I doubt she was too happy to see Huff and Rain leave. Poor attitudes are not good, to be sure, but 'm afraid our soccer programs is running back the Holly Warlick experience....

I bet Eskind was originally recruited by Memphis and the idea of Memphis as a town of residence, isn't very appealing- especially if your from the south and know the city's reputation. So, she headed to Knoxville. Good coach, FSU style of recruiting for sure.

Entering her second season as head coach of the Lady Vol soccer team, Angela Kelly must have known that expectations for the 2001 campaign were heightened once she welcomed junior transfer Kim Patrick and a highly-touted recruiting class that was rated fifth by Soccer Buzz Magazine. The other 11 Southeastern Conference coaches certainly understood the talent level which would soon arrive in Knoxville, as Tennessee was voted to finish second in the league after being picked to finish last in Kelly’s debut season. When all was said and done, the Orange and White was ranked nationally for most of the fall and ended up securing its initial berth into the NCAA Tournament en route to an 11-6-1 overall mark. Tennessee ended eighth-ranked Florida’s SEC-record winning streak at 50 matches and was in the driver’s seat to capture its first Eastern Division crown until a defeat at Georgia in the regular season finale dashed those hopes. The Lady Vols also knocked off #13 Brigham Young, #16 Wake Forest, #24 Kentucky and NCAA Sweet 16 participant Rutgers before battling through four overtimes and seeing its season come to an end on penalty kicks to Duke.

PROVO, Utah - Visiting #13 Brigham Young in its season opener on Saturday night, the Tennessee women's soccer team delivered the most stunning upset in the program's six-year existence with a 2-1 triumph over the Cougars. BYU advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in both 1998 and 2000 and had not dropped a regular-season match at South Field since a 1-0 setback to San Diego State on Oct. 24, 1998. The victory for UT, just its fourth ever over a ranked opponent, was the squad's first over a Top 25 foe away from the friendly confines of Knoxville and eclipsed the previous best of a 3-2 conquest of #15 Kentucky set last Oct. 15.

Vols beat Florida, break records​

When the No. 21 Tennessee Lady Vols soccer team left the field after Friday night's match against No. 8 Florida, they came away with more than just a 2-1 overtime victory.

Tennessee departed firmly entrenched in the record books - its own and Florida's.

Florida came into the game owning the nation's longest conference winning streak with 50 straight wins over its SEC opponents, dating back to 1997.


Tennessee struck fast. In fact, the Lady Vols' score only 29 seconds into the contest set a school record for both squads as the earliest goal scored by Tennessee and as the fastest goal allowed by Florida.

The Lady Vols would capitalize soon after overtime began. Six minutes into overtime, at the 96:16 mark of play, freshman midfielder Kayla Lockaby moved the ball quickly up the left side of the field. From there, Lockaby lobbed a well-timed pass towards Patrick, who headed the ball through for the decisive "golden goal."




The win, which marks Tennessee's first in seven tries against the Gators, was the first in program history against a top-10 team.

Lady Vols fall in first round NCAA​

After four overtimes and 150 minutes of action on Friday night, the Lady Vols soccer team and Duke University came down to penalty kicks in first-round NCAA tournament action at Fetzer Field to see which club would advance to face top-ranked and defending national champion North Carolina on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils managed to connect on their first four attempts and used stellar goalkeeping by sophomore Thora Helgadottir en route to a 4-2 decision in penalty kicks. The match itself was tied, 1-1, but Duke (8-9-1) winds up moving on in the bracket thanks to the successful effort its kicks. Consequently, the Lady Vols wind up its most successful campaign at 11-6-1 overall.

"Ever since my playing days, I hated to end a match on penalty kicks," Lady Vols coach Angela Kelly said. "Words cannot describe how proud I am of my young women. They have bigger hearts than anyone I have been associated with."


The format called for teams to choose five players to shoot in alternating fashion. Freshman defender Lindsey Wiest then stepped up to the hash mark and banged a shot past Helgadottir to even the affair.

After Blue Devil junior Carly Fuller went down low to beat Stevens to put her squad ahead, 4-2, sophomore midfielder Marie-Eve Nault's attempt was denied on the right side by Helgadottir, triggering a wild celebration by victorious Duke.

Lady Vol victory over UGA scores first SEC East title​

Heading into a contest with divisional rival Georgia, Tennessee was looking to secure its first-ever SEC East title.

With a 2-1 overtime victory over the Lady Bulldogs, Tennessee did just that and improved its record to 13-5-1 to conclude the regular season.


In picking up its sixth conference win of the season, UT solidified a spot in the record books by breaking the mark for wins in a season. The previous best was held by the 1998 and 2000 teams, which ended their seasons at 12-8 overall.

Heading into the final game, the Lady Vols needed a win or a tie to fend off perennial titleholder Florida and take at least the No. 2 seed into this weekend's conference tournament.

In a matchup atop the Western division, Auburn and Alabama fought through two sudden death overtimes without scoring, securing Auburn the top seed in the SEC tournament. The Lady Vols will anchor the other side of the bracket as the No. 2 seed in conference play and will go into the tournament looking for their first-ever SEC tournament victory.

Three years after the Lady Vol administration promoted Angela Kelly to head coach of the soccer team, she has reached yet another pinnacle that the administration envisioned for the young program.

With a 2-1 double overtime victory Sunday, Tennessee knocked off six-time defending SEC tournament champion Florida and took its first-ever SEC tournament title.

LOCKABY'S LATE GOAL LIFTS NO. 11 UT PAST NO. 22 CINCINNATI, 2-1, AND INTO SWEET 16​

"I'm obviously very pleased to have a win," said the third-year Lady Vol mentor. "We played a much better second half than the first, so all the credit goes to the team. At halftime, I told my girls that it was their choice to play the way we had prepared, or to play the way we did during the first half. Luckily, they made the right choice and we were able to be successful."

The Lady Vol soccer team was rewarded for its finest season by being included in the Top 10 of the final polls released by the National Soccer Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas and Soccer Buzz Magazine. The NCAA Men's and Women's Soccer Rules Committee proposed substitution rules changes for Division I men's competition, effective for the 2024 season.

All rules proposals must be approved by the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel before becoming official. The panel is scheduled to discuss soccer rules recommendations April 18.

Committee members, who met in Indianapolis this week, recommended that no reentry be allowed in either half once a player leaves the game via substitution in Division I men's soccer. Additionally, teams will have six moments to make substitutions in a game, and substitutions can occur during any stoppage of play. Teams would be awarded an additional moment to make substitutions in overtime.

In all three levels of men's and women's soccer, the committee recommended that the clock would stop on all substitutions in the last 15 minutes of the second half and in overtime periods.

Committee members discussed the substitutions options thoroughly and wanted to discourage using substitutions as a tactic to slow the pace of the game.

"This aligns with the sport that our incoming student-athletes are used to," said Tim Cupello, men's soccer coach at UC Riverside and chair of the rules committee. "It also aligns with the sport they would be playing if they are fortunate to continue playing after college into a professional career. The game model and coaching style will reflect what they had during their youth development."

Currently, in all levels of NCAA soccer, players can reenter the game once in the second half and can substitute only on goal kicks, their own team's throw-in, their own team's corner kick, after a goal has been scored or when a player has received a caution. This would remain the same for all levels except Division I men. Also currently, the clock stops only when the team that is winning makes substitutions in the last five minutes of the game.

Expanded video review​

The committee recommended expanding video review. If video review equipment is available, referees could initiate reviews on the following plays:

  • Potential penalty kick situations.
  • Potential straight red card situations.
  • Any potential offside violations.
  • A foul denying an obvious scoring opportunity.
"Whatever we can do to make the calls correct is a benefit," Cupello said. "If we can provide an extra tool to the referees to help get decisions correct, it is a positive. Student-athletes will feel like their performance is rewarded correctly. That is the ultimate goal."

Other rules proposals​

  • The sudden-victory format would be used in postseason play.
  • Teams would have to provide copies of their rosters, with starters indicated, to the scorer's table and the opposing coach 15 minutes before kickoff. A clean copy of both rosters would have to be provided to the referee.

Point of emphasis​

Officials will be instructed to watch decorum by coaches and players in the coaching and team areas next season. The committee considered proposing that all bench personnel, except for the head coach, remain seated during play.

Since Head Coach Angela Kelly took over the program prior to the 2000 season, Lady Vol Soccer has risen from the bottom of the Southeastern Conference into a dominant presence on the national collegiate soccer scene. After bringing home its first SEC Tournament title and reaching the Sweet 16 of the Women’s College Cup in ’02, Tennessee entered its next campaign with heavy aspirations. Predicted by the league’s coaches to win the conference and carrying a preseason ranking of 12th — the highest prognostication since the school added the sport in 1996 — the Orange continued to blaze a winning path. On their way to a 17—5—2 over— all mark, the Lady Vols achieved the Triple Crown of the SEC’s Eastern Division, regular-season and tourney titles and peaked at seventh in the national polls. Ten- nessee hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Sweet 16 again following shutout victories over Oklahoma and Georgia. The squad put together a school—record 12- match unbeaten streak and battled valiantly before Florida connected on a penalty kick with less than one minute remaining for the lone goal in round three of the Women’s College Cup. UT made it two straight division titles as Kelly was named the league’s Coach of the Year for the initial time by her peers.

A top tier high school player for sure. Hope she does well! Probably fell for the Alabama facade - remember, Alabama is a 5th year covid team (it's not real). However, the net gain is that the fake record probably helped with recruiting. Katie Shae Collins (going to South Carolina) is actually the better player and going to a better program. Hope they both do well. One of the two players did their research and picked the right school. And, why would an informed player and their family, pick a school that seeks out 5th year players and gives preference to seniors that shouldnt be on the field.

This is American College Soccer. Stop trying to make it International. That's the problem with this sport, a bunch of knuckle head 'it's the worlds game' liberals don't get Western culture and our superior sports perspective. Focus on cleaning the game up (like the NFL) and score more goals!!! Gheesh these 'people' drive me nuts.

I don't agree that we should Americanize soccer....U.S. collegiate soccer already has different rules than international/pro soccer, but there is no
need to alter it significantly so that Americans with short-attention spans will like it more. As is, the sport has been growing very rapidly in popularity for the last decade plus.

I believe Amber Nguyen originally committed to UT, then switched to Vandy. She's been a starter for them for at least two years and played against us--a solid midfielder but nothing special, IMO. Not sure about the other.
