Wow: Here are some stats that explain why our attack as struggled.....

In SEC play:

Taylor Huff has one 1 goal and 2 assists. = a meager 4 points.

Jordan Fusco has 1 goal and 0 assists = 2 points Coming into tonight Fusco had 23 shots but only 5 shots on goal in SEC play. That's a lowly
21 percent SOG percentage and not good. That's been an issue with her this year.

Those are two of our best attacking players....

Burdette is a defensive mid--but your defensive mid should opportunistically get involved in the attack.
She really hasn't---0 goals, 0 assists, 1 SOG in 9 SEC games. She should have more than 1 SOG in 9 games.

Nelson: Has 0 goals and 0 assists in SEC play. She's had only 3 shots (!) and 1 SOG. Again, we wouldn't expect a lot of SOG from either her and Burdette--but they are both midfielders and 1 SOG from each means they are not getting involved around the box as much as they should. This also suggests that Nelson is simply not dynamic enough, for a starting mid. She's too wedded to the touchline and just doesn't get in and around the box enough.

Interestingly, Dipasupil was our points leader coming into tonight games----3 goals, 4 assists = 10 points.

Thomas had 9 points in 9 SEC games---4 goals but only one 1 assist. That 1 assist is an issue; Thomas should have more than 1 assist, with Huff and Fusco operating behind her.

I wouldn’t have believed it before the season but we can’t finish around the goal. Huff has to get more attempts.

Good win tonight--encouraging. But we're not going to win the East, as South Carolina, as expected, is on its way to a victory over Missouri.

We just weren't good enough at home, for some reason. We were hurt by our scoreless draw with LSU when we were easily the better team, and then of course there was our embarrassing loss to South Carolina. I have to give the South Carolina coach credit: I don't like her--she's a poor loser--but she (and her husband) can coach. Almost every year I look at their squad and they don't look all that talented--and the gamecocks do not have as much talent as we do, that's for sure--but almost every year they are very good defensively /and/ find ways to score.

According to an article on Tennessee's Athletics website,Tennessee will co-share the 2022 Eastern Division title with South Carolina each with 15 points. South Carolina will get the two seed due to South Carolina's victory over Tenessee. However, South Carolina's one loss in the east was to Vanderbilt. If accurate ( which makes sense) we have won out right or shared the east title three years in a row.

Have watched almost the first 70 minutes--and certainly one of the best games, at least until that point, we played all year. Pressed Vandy effectively, moved the ball well, created some quality chances--and freakin' amazing, we saw Renie go up and attack the ball on a corner kick and put it in the net for the game-winning goal. We need her doing that--and we need others to do it, given the number of corners we tend to create. And then Huff converted a PK for our 2nd goal--and I agree with the SEC color commentator tonight, I think she needed that goal to regain some confidence in her offensive game. However, if you think about the massive amount of quality work Huff puts in all over the field, the runs that she makes, her passes, she can be forgiven if her shooting and goal-scoring has been a bit down this year.

Are both Dipasupil /and/ Zaluski dinged up? Apparently so, as neither was dressed out tonight. A little strange--but I thought Stayart was solid tonight. She's pretty strong, got a solid soccer body, and she's got skills. Again, she was a help.

Our back line was very good--though there were a couple of second-half lapses that gave Vandy some chances.

We certainly needed this win going into the tournament.

Hard to believe Ole Miss is still in the tourney after losing their last six games.

There are going to be some tough semifinal matches. We've got to play georgia, which won't be easy. Vandy and Arkansas will be very competitive, I think. The winner of texas a&m/Miss.State could give bama some problems. A&M has played well the last half of the conference season, and Miss. State is no pushover. LSU thumped Ole miss tonight and now they've got to play again on Tuesday in the tourney. LSU, if they win, are certainly capable of challenging south carolina.

I'm eager to see what the field looks like in Pensacola. The SEC should really go down to an 8-team tourney, if only to save two games of wear-and-tear on the field.

No. 21 UT Co-SEC East Division Champions After 2-0 Win Over Vandy

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- No. 21 Tennessee closed out the regular season with a 2-0 win over in-state rival Vandy on Thursday in front of a crowd of 1,087 at Regal Stadium.

With the win, Tennessee (11-4-2, 7-2-1 SEC) ends the regular season tied with South Carolina at 15 points in the SEC East Division to become Co-SEC East Champions. It is the third straight SEC East Division Championship for the Lady Vols.

Prior to the game, fifth-year seniors Abbey Burdette, Mackenzie George, and Hannah Zaluski and senior Lindsey Romig were recognized in a Senior Day ceremony.

Junior Lawson Renie netted the game-winner for UT in the 49th minute off an assist by sophomore Taylor Huff, and Huff added another for insurance in the 67thminute. Romig recorded five saves on the night.

Vanderbilt (11-3-3, 5-3-2 SEC) was led on offense by Alex Kerr who put two shots on goal. In the net, Sara Wojdelko tallied two saves.

"I think they were just competing for one another. I mean, this is Senior Night. The team has a ton of respect and admiration for our seniors. They played their hearts out for them - competed together, fought together, and really just played for one another. That's what we talked about all year, and sometimes we lose that focus a little bit, but they did that tonight," said Tennessee head coach Joe Kirt.

The Lady Vols dominated possession in the first half, outshooting the Commodores 9-1, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Jaida Thomas put a ball on frame from close range nine minutes into play, but Wojdelko dove on it for the save.

Burdette had UT's best look of the half with just under five minutes left, ripping a shot from 25 yards out that slammed off the crossbar and back into the field of play, but the Vandy defense was able to clear, and the game went into the break tied at zero.

Renie put UT ahead just four minutes into the second half, drilling a header past Wojdelko off a corner by Huff.

Huff added another in the 67th minute, burying the ball in the back corner of the goal on a penalty kick earned from a foul on Burdette in the box.

Kerr got loose in the Commodores' offensive third with 13 minutes left in the game, taking a shot from 18 yards out that Romig collected in a diving save, and Tennessee closed out the regular season with a win on Rocky Top.

UP NEXT: The Lady Vols will head to Pensacola as the No. 3 seed due to the head-to-head tie-breaker with South Carolina and will play sixth-seeded Georgia on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. CT/3:30 p.m. ET.

ANOTHER SHUTOUT: The win against Vanderbilt was Tennessee's 10th shutout of the season, six of which have come over the course of its last seven outings.

SECOND HALF TEAM: Over the last eight games, UT has outscored opponents 13-7. Of those 13 goals, 11 have been in the second half with seven of them coming in the final 20 minutes of play.

Chris Henderson's Current RPI Ranking

NCAA WoSo RPI after Thu, 10/27

He's got the Vols at No. 20. So we've climbed the ladder a bit in recent weeks. I'm guessing that if the NCAA tourney were seeded now, we'd be a 5 or 6 seed. With a couple of wins in the SEC tourney we might be able to move up to RPI 15 or better--as our 2nd round (semifinal)
opponent would likely be South Carolina--if we beat Georgia and SC beats the winner of LSU - Ole Miss rematch. We want as high an RPI
rank as we can get, because the higher the RPI, the higher the NCAA seed, and the higher the seed, the easier (in theory) the first NCAA opponent.

My biggest negative from the Vandy win is that despite how well we played, we only had 4 shots on goal. 13 shots, 4 SOG. We gotta get
more shots on net. George had a couple of good strikes with her left foot in the first half--but missed the net with both. Burdette lasered a shot
off the crossbar--but doesn't count as SOG. Fusco had a decent look, albeit from a bit of distance, hit the ball well but pulled it left. She could use a goal. Our play for extended stretches as been quite good--but our shooting has been an issue. On to the tourney!
