Here are the Power 4 programs that have had 4 or more players leave (or be asked to leave) and found a new home via the #TransferPortal based on public announcements. Several of these programs have additional players still looking.

From what I have seen, Tennessee has only had one player enter the portal. Many on here were predicting a mass exodus. We have a lot of fantastic young players that love playing for Kirt and want to be in Knoxville.

At the same time, we brought in 3 fantastic additions. All proven goal scorers with SEC experience.

The 2025 Spring roster is out. Everyone is back from 2024 squad except for Sarah Greiner (Transfer Portal Miami Hurricanes).
Besides everyone who graduated I don’t see Jenna Chatterton, she was a senior last year but missed the last two years due to injuries so I think she has eligibility if she wanted to play.

The 3 Transfer players are also added to the spring lineup which is great and will help them mesh with the team for the fall. Each one plays forward and has SEC experience.

As far as the incoming freshman, looks like two of the six have enrolled early and will also be on the spring squad.

Do we still have a hard cap at 28 for the fall? My count had us at 29 with 4 Freshman left for the fall. If so it may be a challenge to get to that number.

Good point. Not sure if that rule is 100% a thing for this year or how that will all pan out. Might be some of the freshman will red shirt the first year and maybe injuries to others will play a factor.

Kirt Announces Addition of Lyons to Soccer's Coaching Staff

Mike Lyons is set to join Tennessee's soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Joe Kirt announced Monday morning.

Lyons joins Kirt, associate head coach Jon Morgan and fellow assistant coach Marty Baker.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Mike to our program," said Kirt. "Mike's experience as a player and coach will bring a new perspective to our staff and playing style. He is passionate and dedicated to players' growth and development on and off the field. Mike is a great fit in our staff and team culture as we continue our pursuit of SEC Championships and our ultimate goal of bringing a National Championship back to Knoxville."

Lyons spent last season at the University of Dayton, where he was an assistant coach for the men's team.

During the 2024 season, Lyons helped guide the Flyers to a 14-3-3 overall record and an A10 Tournament Championship. Additionally, Dayton men's soccer advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament while also ranking inside the top-25 for seven consecutive weeks during the season, including two weeks at No. 2 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's national rankings.

Prior to his time in Dayton, Ohio, Lyons spent the 2022-23 season with Virginia men's soccer.

He helped guide the team to a 10-4-5 record overall and 5-1-2 mark in the ACC. The Cavaliers advanced to the ACC semifinals before earning an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. Virginia reached as high as No. 11 in the national rankings and was ranked for eight weeks during the season.

Before his time in Charlottesville, Virginia, Lyons spent two years with Skyline Elite in the ECNL after a professional career overseas. He had stints in Brazil and Ireland before returning to the United States in 2017 to earn his degree from the University of Lynchburg. While there, he began his coaching career at Jefferson Forest High School, leading his team to its first state final since 2010.

Lyons and his wife, Abigael, have one daughter, Kai.
