Counted are Power 5 schools (plus Notre Dame) who have 0 or 1 loss going into first playoff rankings since 2014.

2014
-------
18 = 0 or 1 loss teams

2015
-------
16 = 0 or 1 loss teams

2016
-------
11 = 0 or 1 loss teams

The downward trend really took a steep slope this year. I want the committee to sweat extra this time.

Two one-loss teams at the top, followed by a cluster of two-loss teams.

There are currently exactly 4 unbeaten Power 5 teams ... one from each conference except the B12. Could this end up being the top 4 in tonight's season-first CFP ranking?

1- Bama (SEC)
2- Michigan (B10)
3- Clemson (ACC)
4- Washington (PAC)

...

And more interestingly, will those four make it to through the regular season undefeated? Not even gonna try to guess if they make it through their conference CGs, that can be a real crap shoot most places.

I think Bama will ... Michigan will not ... Clemson will not ... and Washington, surprisingly, will.

So in the CFP rankings just before championship weekend, should see:

1- Bama
2- Washington
3- Ohio State? If they knocked off Michigan, probably so.
4- Louisville? If they knocked off Clemson, probably so.

Will be fun to watch it play out, with fingers crossed that we might, against all odds, get the chance to ruin Bama's day in Atlanta.

Go Vols!

Just playing around here using currently ranked opponents (AP).

Bama's quality wins:

#7 Texas A&M (33-14)

Michigan's quality wins:

#21 Colorado (45-28)
#20 Penn State (49-10)
#8 Wisconsin (14-7)

Clemson's quality wins:

@ #11 Auburn (19-3)
#5 Louisville (42-36)
@ #19 Florida State (37-34)

Washington's quality wins:

@ #16 Utah (31-24)

And, yes, let's get to Atlanta and do the unthinkable. :biggrin:

My bad, Louisville can't knock of Clemson; Clemson has already knocked them off, hehe.

And Clemson is unlikely to lose in the regular season. They only have Syracuse, Pitt, Wake Forest, and USCe left before the ACC CG.

So I change my prognostication: 3 of the four will remain unbeaten: Bama, Clemson, and Washington. The 4th spot in the pre-conference CG week rankings will probably go to Ohio State for knocking off Michigan.
