Wellington (FL) Palm Beach Central High School

Ht: 6-foot-2
Wt: 215 lbs
Forty: 4.59 secs
Vertical: 29 inches
Shuttle: 4.44 secs
GPA: 2.9
Class: 2009 (High School)

Broncos linebacker Jon Bostic is fully recovered from back and ankle injuries that slowed him last season, and the senior has spent the spring showing his teammates exactly how healthy he feels.

"He's really laying people out," first-year coach Rod Harris said. "It's his own teammates, so it's a Catch-22 ... but I can't stop him."

Those last four words are likely to be muttered throughout the county come fall. Bostic is a rangy linebacker at 6-feet-2, 225 pounds and runs the 40 in 4.45 seconds.

"You don't have to project him," Harris said. "Will he grow another inch? Will he gain 30 pounds? He's there right now. That's why every school has been in here."

As of Monday, Bostic said he has received 23 scholarship offers, including bids from Florida, Miami, Florida State, USC and LSU. He will listen until the end of summer, then narrow the field.

"The process is a little wild right now," said his father, also named Jon, who played cornerback for the Detroit Lions from 1985-87.

Bostic will see some time at running back as well, but Harris said defense is priority for Bostic.

"I'm playing everywhere," said Bostic, who began his high school career as a defensive back. "If he would let me, I'd probably still be at corner.

"Against teams that throw the ball, I want to play corner; against teams that run the ball, I want to play linebacker."

by Patrick Dorsey

In a conversation with 2008 South Florida signee Danas Estenor, Palm Beach Central's Jon Bostic asked his teammate what to expect in the recruiting game.
Estenor's response: ''A couple of looks'' this spring, Bostic said.
Well, the senior-to-be got a few more.
Try 25. So far. And they're not low-level offers, either.
''The who's-who of college football [has] already been in here,'' Palm Beach Central coach Rod Harris said.
Who's that? Nearby, schools like the University of Miami, Florida, Florida State, LSU and South Carolina have offered the big-time linebacker prospect, son of former NFL defensive back Jon Bostic Sr.
But it extends farther. West Virginia offered Bostic, too. Even perennial contender Southern California is serious.
That last one says something, in Harris' mind.
''When Southern California comes into Florida,'' Harris said, ``they don't come for anyone. They come just for specific players.''
The reasons are obvious. At about 6-0 and less than 200 pounds not too long ago, Bostic mastered defensive-back skills -- learning them from Bostic Sr., who played the position for Bethune-Cookman and then the Detroit Lions for 2.5 years. He also developed high-end speed, clocking in at about 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash.
Then he grew another two inches and added about 30 pounds -- he's listed at 6-2, 225 -- and kept his speed. Now he's a prime prospect at all three linebacker positions, with ''the football skills to make a solid impact at the next level,'' according to recruiting analyst Larry Blustein.
He's so skilled that some schools have told him he can start from Day 1.
Not that Bostic Sr. is letting his son believe the hype. Ever pragmatic, the father said he constantly instructs Bostic Jr. to ''take [recruiting] in stride'' and ``enjoy it while you can.''
And when those promises of early playing time come, Bostic Sr. said, don't always believe them.
''I just had to make sure that Jonathan understand that [schools] have, say, 90 to 100 scholarships, and they don't sign kids who don't play,'' Bostic Sr. said. ``I think he sees that, and he's heard that a few times, and I think he knows to be wary of someone who promises a silver lining and it's not even raining out.''
Still, that's not to say he's far from being a college contributor. Harris said the soft-spoken Bostic has ''matured tremendously'' in the past year or so, ready to take on a leadership role for the young Broncos.
He also has shaken off back and ankle injuries that marred his junior season, and is ready to continue his two-way role, starring at both linebacker and running back (where a few, but not many, schools also are recruiting him).
But, Harris said, it's Bostic's size and skill level that sets him apart from most teenagers.
''There's no projection for him in college in regards to: Is he fast enough? Is he strong enough?'' Harris said. ``He's there already.''
But where he'll be ''there'' is to be determined. Bostic said he is unsure where he's leaning. He is set to visit some schools in the summer, and will ''probably do some narrowing down'' after.
Wherever his son chooses, Bostic Sr. wants to make sure there's a solid commitment. He wants Bostic Jr. to get an education, to give his all to the team.
And although Bostic Jr. likely won't follow his father to Division I-AA Bethune-Cookman, Bostic Sr. wants his son to share a similar college experience to his parents (his mother went to Florida A&M).
''We'd like for him to have that same love for his institution,'' Bostic Sr. said.
One thing's for sure: He has plenty of suitors.

Bostic, 6-3 and 225 pounds, has a slew of scholarship offers and is just now beginning to narrow things down a little.

"I am trying to set up some official visits and I am almost there. I think I will visit Tennessee when they play Florida, Auburn when they play Tennessee, and LSU when they play Georgia. I want to visit USC and either South Carolina or Clemson. I am also looking at some in-state schools, Florida, FSU, Miami and Central Florida. I will not make official visits to those schools because I have already been there and it will be easy for me to take unofficial visits to them later on."

Bostic won't make a decision until after all his visits are taken. He plans of going to the Florida-LSU and Miami-Florida State games (unofficial visits) this fall.

at least we're getting him on campus

I think he'll stay instate. Although if his ultimate goal is the NFL he'll come to UT. Anyways I'd rather have Askew & Telfort.

ESPNU 150 OLB Jon Bostic names 11 contenders
Jon Bostic is now only considering USC, LSU, Florida, Miami-FL, Florida State, Auburn, Clemson, Alabama, West Virginia, South Carolina and Central Florida, the Palm Beach Post reports.
The highly touted outside linebacker is currently holding 27 total scholarship offers.

Bostic "is a fan" of all four in-state head coaches and has been "impressed" with LSU head man Les Miles and USC linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr.

The No. 103-rated overall player and No. 9-rated outside linebacker intends to graduate from Palm Beach Central (Fla.) early and enroll at his school of choice in January 2009.

Additionally, the 6-foot-1, 218-pound prospect has dealt with back and ankle injuries over the last two seasons but hopes to play pain-free this fall. He's been fitted for inserts in his shoes to counter his flat feet.

Jon's father, Jon Bostic Sr., played at Bethune Cookman before moving on to the NFL and has naturally served as his son's advisor during the recruiting process.

He's seeing the Vols twice. Two weeks in a row. If we win back to back against top ten teams that will surely impress him.

Wellington, Palm Beach Central linebacker Jon Bostic was supposed to take an official visit to Knoxville over the weekend for the Florida-Tennessee game but didn't because his father was unable to attend. Bostic told The Sun that he isn't sure when or if he will try to reschedule a trip there, but he will be taking an official to Auburn this weekend for the Tennessee game. Bostic also plans to visit Florida again this fall.

Rex do you have a list of the top 25 JUCO schools the Vols have harvested players from in the past and is there a link to these schools that we can peruse them for player watches?

Coffeyvile CC has been the biggest Vol pipeline recently.
Yes the big 12 apparently has'nt a problem with the Vols coming out on the plains stealing talent, I'll work on finding links for the local talent. Especially the Jenks/Union hs rivalry their team talent is deep.

Wellington (Fla.) Palm Beach Central LB Jon Bostic has trimmed his lengthy list of scholarship offers down to six, InsideTheU.com reported. The 6-foot-1, 220-pound inside linebacker has taken official visits to LSU, Auburn and Florida State, unofficials to Florida and Miami (Fla.) and also would like to take a trip to Clemson before he announces his final decision around Dec. 1. Those schools constitute his finalists.

He'll be a great catch for any of those schools, his high school coach told Sporting News Today recently.

"His physical attributes are second to nobody," Palm Beach Central coach Rodney Harris told SN Today. "You're not usually going to just walk in and run a 4.59 (40-yard dash time), but he's been on record running that. He's been offered by everyone. ... He's gregarious. He likes to make teammates laugh, but when he needs to get down to business and practice, he does."

I think Askew, NMT, and Shakleford will compete for time at MLB next season unless one grows into a DE. If we sign him, watch out for NMT, he could be an excellent 3 Star sleeper.

i think he's supposed to go on a mission trip after his freshman year like Mapu did, i would much rather have Tana.

Yeah, but you have to respect his religious beliefs if he did come. I'd rather have a guy that isn't going to drop out for 2 years.
