Shane Gordon, MLB, 6-0, 220.

Evaluation: We have had three years to watch and evaluate this quality football player who remains one of the state's top players. From his impressive state championship game performance in a win over South Sumter as a freshman to some key offseason combine events, here is a football player who has the experience and knowledge of making plays. He is strong against the run and has become a very good defender against the pass. Gordon has more than 140 tackles and 20 quarterback sacks in the past two years alone.

"The SEC is an advantage," said Gordon, a 5-foot-11, 224-pounder from Weston (Cypress Bay), Fla. "To me, that's the best conference playing football."

"I'm fast," said Gordon, who has been timed at 4.56 seconds in the 40-yard dash. "I have a fast motor."

Gordon said distance from home or proximity to his family won't be an issue.

"I'm not scared of leaving or anything like that," Gordon said. "All that matters is I want to play next year. All of them don't have just an open spot, but they all say if I work, I could play next year as a freshman."

Could be the deal sealer, knowing he can come in a compete for a starting posistion.

I like him...I really love the fact that he has been a big contributor since he was a freshman. With his size, strength, and those kind of wheels, he can definitely give Rico some competition. Watching his video, he blitzes a lot so it's hard to evaluate how well he reads...but the few coverages I saw him drop into he read fairly quickly...I'm thinking the knock on him would be getting off of blocks with BIG OLinemen.
