Forestville (MD) Forestville High

Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 236 lbs
Forty: 4.9 secs

According to Coach Charles Harley, Forestville junior DeOnte Arnett -- a 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end -- is expected to make a verbal commitment on Wednesday.

Rated as high as 11th among the nation's top defensive ends, Arnett has a tremendous wing-span, which helped him to 72 tackles and 15 sacks last fall as well as 18 official offers. He's narrowed that list to five -- Ohio State, Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee and Cincinnati. B.J. will have more on Arnett next week as he sits down for a question and answer session in the Recruiting Spotlight.

Thing is that when you don't identify it clearly as a guess... some of us are tempted to think you know or have read something that leads to your opinion.

If I were in the kid's shoes btw, neither Maryland nor Cincy would have a chance. I'd want to play on a big stage. I'd probably want to play in the SEC though tOSU's routine appearances in the NC might be a draw. The deciding factor after that would be playing time... which means I'd probably choose UT right now even if I weren't a fan.

I don't know anything about this kid so I'm not saying this is the case, but people on here always talk about how they want the "in state kids who bleed orange." Why do you think he couldn't be the same way about UM?

Could be... but that region doesn't seem to have the same types of homestate loyalties. Many of the better DC area b-ball players have historically gone to other ACC schools or elsewhere.

Yea thats why I said, im gonna go with Maryland instead of, "he is going to Maryland."

Maryland does pretty well with area kids and if not Rutgers could pull him in.

I would probably agree that it is a little bit more of a regional phenomenon but I was just curious as to why you were so definitive about UM not even standing a chance. The Giles' of the world seem to be the exception rather than the rule in recruiting, the ones who openly say that they aren't even interested in playing for their "home" school(s).

VH, I wasn't being a smart aleck when I asked why. I was just curious if there was a reason or not.

No disagreement that for many if not most kids the homestate school or a close school has an advantage.

Maryland simply doesn't seem to be a team on the verge of a break out. Their last 4 seasons have been 5-6, 5-6, 9-4, and 6-7. As far as I know, they aren't loading up the draft either. If Friedgen isn't in trouble... he should be. Those are weak numbers against the ACC when Miami and FSU have been down.

If that were my homestate school... I'd go somewhere else.

DE is a need & he could possibly get some early playing time with us. Scout's site doesn't mention UT as an interested school like Rivals does...but sometimes those things change, don't they!

Plus scout is usually behind on that stuff. We were the leader for Giles for a couple months and they didn't list us until he actually committed.
