Let's not all get enamored with a #1 class this year. Our biggest problem this year was depth, which can be fixed with 2 or 3 years of top 10 recruiting classes. A #1 class would be super, but it is all just bragging rights. The real winners are the teams that actually develop the talent, something we haven't been accustomed to around here until recently. I just hope Kiffin and co. will get the right players to fit their system, and what ever the ranking is, so be it.

good post. sometimes though 1 or 2 players can really be the empitus for great success. if we get a couple kids that can be major factors out of this class then i think were making progress

Lamarcus Thompson seems like the vocal type, He plays his heart out and seems to do it with passion! I cannot remember him ever getting in trouble.

I agree. In truth there is very little difference in the #1 and #10 class. The key is getting talented players that are a fit to your program.

I beg to differ..

I found this rather interesting. Since the conception of rivals.com rankings in 2002, the #1 rated class of each year has gone on to win a National Championship at least once.

To me, it's a pretty telling sign about recruiting.

Recruiting: Recruiting NC/Team/Actual NC

2002/Texas/2005
2003/LSU/2003, 2007
2004/USC/2003 (debatable), 2004
2005/USC/"
2006/USC/"
2007/UF/2006, 2008
2008/Alabama/ 2009
2009/Alabama/ 2009

To me, that's pretty conclusive. Recruiting in a very telling sign in a team's success.

1-5 usually isnt a huge difference but like an above post said 1 or 2 players could be a big difference in a class. The main problem we had the past few years was the fact we werent developing the talent & most of the kids we got were bad character guys that never had the determination to better themsevles. With Kiffin & Co. that will be completely different! They research these players backgrounds up & they want guys that will COMPETE & once you get this kids on campus they WILL get developed! I'd take a Top 5 class every year with this staff we got then to have a number 1 class every year full of undisciplined bad character kids.

Having a top 5 class is awesome and I agree you want someone that fits in your system and alot of it depends on the coaching staff.

If the number 1 class is all you need then looks like Florida, Alabama, and Texas are going to in the NC game next few years to come

#1 is nice to have but a coach who can get the recruited players to play up to their potential is just as important .....i never thought the former staff did that very well...
