Bench Max:285

Scout has an article on this guy that says CDD is back on him and that Baylor is as well. Not a very impressive list of schools that have offered but was being recruited by Dooley at La. Tech.

Just wanted to pass it along. I am a TOS member so I can't look inside scout.

Wonder if he played any OG in high school???

My thoughs exactly. Plus for a 6'3" 280 pounder that's a REALLY slow 40 time.
I sincerely hope those measurables are incorrect...if not; PASS.

I am glad u see it that way. I was going to voice displeasure on this kid, but anyone who is not praising on the board right now is getting slammed..

KOOL-AID is-a-plenty

Would not even consider this guy if those measurables are correct.

Let the slamming begin. Sure hope not... GBO

I think the bashing is due in large part to a big divide amongst Pro-Dooley and Anti-Dooley supporters...not much you can do about it.

However, that being said...I don't want a DT that only has offers and the athletic ability to play at LA Tech-type football programs.

Me either. There is a thread in this section that asks who we will end up with in this class. I have mad a post on there and hope I don't get crucified. LOL...

I could see this as a 2-year project kid. Seems like a guy that doesn't have much of a HS S&C program. Or maybe he's lazy, who knows?

Got to admit the kid nows how to take the friend role! Coach Dooley told him if we don't get the DT we want then welcome aboard! Thats messed up

Florida State, Auburn, Louisville (offered), Ole Miss, and Arkansas have all shown interest. Sounds like a pretty good fall back plan.

We need to over look alot of these benchpress' on some of these kids. Alot of them don't have proper weight training plus the place to do it. Its not like colleges, alot of these schools just don't have the funds for a proper weight room.

I'd rather take Bryan Jones over this guy, but if he ends up a Vol I'll support him.

I agree. If a kid has the footwork and technique, throw him and the UT weight room for a year and he'd be fine... unfortunately judging from his 40 he probably doesn't have the quickest feet.

None of the schools in your post have offered that I can find except louisville.

La.Tech, Duke, La. Monroe, Louisville and New Mexico.
have offered. If I have misread the post I am sorry. Looks like your post says FSU,AU and Louisville offered.

Don't think we use a scho;arship on this guy. JMO..

Good point. I'm not usually a numbers guy...but IF this guy makes it to Knoxville he's a redshirt and a two year project minimum.

And IF he ends up here I wish him the best of luck...and hope he works his tail off!

If a player's bench max meant everything, Jacques McClendon would have been the best lineman in UT history.

That's awfully low for his weight. Maybe his arms are four feet long?

Seriously though, hopefully this doesn't represent his work ethic.

Agreed. The kid probably has never been in a serious S&C training program. He is a 3* by rivals, something that the vast majority of high school players cannot even dream of.

5 seconds flat is not that all that slow for a DT, and he most likely has not been coached on speed and quickness either, certainly not in the intense way he would be at UT.

If it appears we will not fill out our recruiting class, I see no reason to not take a chance on an offer to this kid. Dooley has recruited him before, so I trust his judgment.

It is not like we were overrun with 5* kids beating our doors down.

You misread...but that's cool. Maybe I could've been clearer. Go read my post again. I said all the schools I listed "showed interest" and beside Louisville I had "(offered)". I don't think this kid is our first choice but he does sound like a good fall back plan. I really like the fact that Dooley was honest with and told him that he's a fall back guy.

Bench Press isn't that important for a high schooler. In high school my team mate could only bench 285 and ran a 4.9, he got a scholly from alabama and started at DE last year when they went 12-2, he was only a 2*. I benched 395 ran a 4.6 went to Tennessee hurt my shoulder and knee and ended up getting a degree in Microbiology. You never can tell
