Pro-style quarterback
Chula Vista (CA) Chula Vista

Ht: 6-foot-6
Wt: 215 lbs

He has the size and arm strength you want, but obviously needs polish with his mechanics. He is getting help with that from Whitfield Athletix, a quarterback training firm spearheaded by George Whitfield Jr.

I contacted the staff about this guy a while ago. I would love to think he wasn't on their rader before then, but that's probably unlikely given Whitfield's connections.

According to a new article, he was supposed to be at camp with Tennessee today---

Scout.com: Perez on Pack's Radar

Tom O'Brien (Matt Ryan's coach at Boston College) seems to be one of the most interested watchers of Perez' development. UCLA has made some contact as well.

Perez is by all accounts a project with some great (albeit raw) physical tools. Last year was his first year as a starter for Chula Vista.

Since teaming up with Whitfield, a noted quarterback specialist, Perez seems to be making big strides in his maturity as a player.

excerpt form the previously-mentioned Scout article---

My footwork is the biggest thing I've improved on. He's improved that along with my release, my arm strength, and my technique. He has also helped me out with reading defenses... coach Whitfield has helped me with everything.

He looks pretty good on film. Kind of a statue, but Kiffin isn't really looking for the next Michael Vick. Already operates in a pro-style offense under center. That has to be a plus.

Makes quick reads/decisions. Footwork is an issue from what I see on film, but he says he's improved it. I don't see a whole heckuva lot that separates this guy from the likes of Chase Rettig and he has size on his side.

Those schools of interest are really inaccurate. Many offers aren't firm and often recruits just name off their favorite schools, many of which will never even consider them.

I kept waiting to see who would start recruiting Perez, and now it seems several schools have at least become mildly curious. That probably has to do with his QB coach making the necessary calls.

He could be a great project in the right system. He certainly has some physical gifts.

Here my eval goes.....

Cant agree with sab with him being a statue, but its not like he is mobile. One of my main concerns watching it is how he floated the ball. The ball cant stay in the air that long or else it will be going the other way. On the other hand, I did like how he anticipated some routes. Loved the kids size too

Floating the ball can be fix.

My evaluation: I want a cerebral QB

2.8 GPA = No Thanks

Let's get Scroggins.

Thanks

2.8 GPAs aren't universal you know. Do you know for a fact that he's not taking tough classes at a high academic standard school? Maybe he's taking AP or IB classes. You act as if a 2.8 is flunking out. It's just a hair from being a B average GPA.

Actually you can pretty much garuntee he is not taking any AP classes because those are weighted GPAs which are above 4.0. Unless he is failing those AP classes he would have a GPA well above 2.8.

BTW sorry to get so nerdy on all you guys.
