"I was torn for my fifth trip between Washington and Tennessee, but was leaning towards Washington," said James. "Then the news from Florida made the decision easy for me.
"Now I can't wait to see the facilities and see Washington in a big time game. Coach Martin told me they are going to surprise some people when they play LSU and I'm excited to see it."
James won't be alone on the trip because his talented teammate Demetrius Wright will be accompanying him.
"Demetrius and I have talked about Washington. When I got the news from Florida I let him know we would be tripping together for the LSU game."
James has been impressed with the job Steve Sarkisian and his staff are doing with recruiting and now he's ready to see the programs progress up close.
"Coach Sarkisian is doing a great job of recruiting at Washington. He pulled down Nick Montana so he must be doing something right to land a quarterback like that."
Aside from the coaches, a chance to play early jumps out at James when evaluating Washington. After the departure of David Freeman and Brandon Johnson from the program, the Huskies are left with only four healthy scholarship backs next season.
"One of the things I look for at any school is the chance to compete for a starting spot right away," said James. "The Washington coaches have always told me I would have a great chance of coming in and playing. Coach Martin told me they really want to get both a speed and power back in this class. They already got power with [Melvin] Davis, now they just need speed."
