Football: Sophomore Dietrich Riley picks up first offer -- and it's from USC | Varsity Times Insider | Los Angeles Times

"My top five is USC, UCLA, LSU, Oklahoma and Tennessee," Riley said. "I grew up a USC fan but I'm open to all the schools recruiting me right now.

"I'm looking for where I can play early and where I'm comfortable with the schools itself and a good overall environment. Right now, I'm doing basketball but still working out six days a week and I lift the day before every game."

From the Michigan site. Michigan has offered. Rodriquez told Riley that their top RB is a senior, and that he would like to get some more big backs coming in this year

"I play safety and running back now but I would like to play running back in college," Riley said. "I think I can play on either side of the ball but running back is my favorite position."

As a junior, Riley rushed for 1,400 yards and 13 touchdowns to go with 50 tackles and three sacks from his safety position. He earned all-CIF and 1st team all-state underclass honors from CalHiSports.com for his efforts.

I talked to him for about thirty minutes. He said he has been to a USC practice and has been in contact with USC and UCLA almost every day. He visited UT last April and said all he had time to do is visit the stadium and locker room. He hasn't named a favorite but said he is impressed by Kiffin

Hell of a football player. Not a bad ball carrier either...he's like a safety/linebacker hybrid....especially once he get's in an FBS S&C program. Would be a huge steal to get him east of L.A.

Riley Is High On Tennessee

“I love Lane Kiffin he does a good job of recruiting bringing all those guys in. They (Tennessee) have experienced coaches. They have experience in the NFL and all of that. Tennessee is bringing in a great recruiting class. They are one of my favorite schools.” Riley added

“I like to check out Tennessee on spring break, but I haven’t decided yet. I would like to meet the staff and all. I’ve been talking to them.” Riley said

Rivals... He says UT has stepped up it's efforts to land him...

"They've been sending me handwritten letters on a daily basis and they've been coming at me pretty hard," he said. "I wasn't expecting to hear from them as much since I'm from California and they're in the SEC. I think they're going to come by my school this week because they were going on the road this week. They're high on my list."

Riley has family in Tennessee and has visited before, and he's interested in checking out the Vols and meeting with associate head coach and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron.

"I'd definitely like to go out there and meet coach (Lane) Kiffin and Coach O. I've known Coach O since seventh grade and it'd be good to be around him, he's a high energy guy – he just gets me fired up being around him."

Nebraska Rivals sites says he mainly wants to check out USC, UCLA, Michigan, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama, Oregon, and ASU...

No mention of Tennessee that I'm aware of.

"The practices at USC are up there," Riley said. "They'd be the most elite in that respect. Their practices are like a game. The coaches get all 'geeked up'. It's not surprising that they have such successful seasons because of the way they prepare."

"UCLA is a little bit that way but not quite the same. Tennessee wasn't quite at that level either but the speed there was amazing. The facilities at Tennessee are, by far, the best I've seen so far."

From the Nebraska Rivals site... He's already visited UT...

As for other favorites, Riley isn't ready to put his list into numerical order but he did highlight a few college programs.

"There's no Top 5 or Top 10, but I like Tennessee, Michigan, Oklahoma, Alabama," he said. "But, ND is one of my favorites by far."

Per Rivals...

It seems like every quote by these prospects mentions UT coaches and NFL experience. Gotta love that.
