I took care of a teenager in the ER years ago that came real close to losing his 11th finger when he and his friends decided to break the stick off of a large rocket, light it while standing around it in a circle, and "see what would happen."

I did have a scare one time (pre-teen) with a normal firecracker. However it happens, it had a super duper fast fuse. Lit it, drew back to throw and it went off. Fortunately, just scared the piss out of me, and hurt a litlle. No broken skin even. At first I was scared to look.
