Roy Finch - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN

Finch is an impressive little runner who really uses his diminutive size to his advantage for great productivity. Lacks great size but is compact, put-togther and built low to ground. Low center of gravity makes him very difficult to wrap up cleanly. Hits the hole fast with great initial burst and suddenness through traffic. Has great feet. Reaches top speed quickly and can pick and dart his way through the small creases without gearing down much. Sees and hits the cutback lane sharply. Decisive in-line runner who will square up his pads quickly and get upfield despite his lack of size. Breaks a lot of initial tackles with his excellent balance, body control, low center of gravity and pure determination. Compact, tightly-twitched body allows him to bounce and spin off his fair share of tackles. Very elusive when he breaks free in space with his ability to stop-start, change direction sharply and cut on a dime at full speed. Consistently freezes defenders in the openfield. However, he does appear a bit quicker than fast and is a short strider lacking great top-end speed in the second level. More effective when he accelerates downhill out of his cuts rather than bouncing east-west where his lateral speed is not as superior. May not be an every down back due to his marginal size, but we feel Finch could develop into a very productive complement back and a versatile multi-purpose guy in the right system. His skills in the return game add to his upside.

4.45 is pretty good speed. He has an impressive offer list, and is a top 250 prospect. Good prospect. The only thing that sucks for the guy is that TAFKA is the one that made a thread on him, so pretty much no one will take him seriously. No offense.

4.45 is pretty solid for a RB though, but I was just going by the little writeup he posted.

I could see him putting on a few more pounds and becoming more of a MJD type back though

If we might get back on topic for a minute here, it appears that that Finch impressed at the Nike Football Camp at Florida State.

Rivals said:
Some of the top players from Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana and more were represented at Sunday's Nike Football Training Camp on the campus of Florida State that was characterized by some great competitive battles at multiple positions. However, when the dust settled, no one player could match the performance of Niceville (Fla.) High School running back Roy Finch.

I don't see any schools that he clearly favors, Alabama, Auburn, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Southern Miss, Stanford, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt have all offered.

From the scouting report on his ESPN page

Roy Finch (Niceville, Fla.) caught my eye with his thick, muscular frame that is beyond ideal for a back at this age. He had a well-defined upper body with a big back and towering traps. He does not have great height, but he certainly presented an impressive build and eased some concerns about whether he could carry the load as a college runner. During drills, Finch displayed excellent acceleration and good straight-line speed. He showed he can run low to the ground and make quick cuts without having to gear down much. He also displayed good hands catching the ball.

Position MVP's from the Nike Camp at FSU

RB, Roy Finch, 5-7, 162, Niceville (Fla.) Finch arrived late and missed most of the SPARQ7 portion of the camp, but didn't miss a beat, hopping into the position drills and showing as explosive of a burst and lateral quickness as seen in any RB on the NFTC tour to this point. Built like a tank, Finch is similar to former FSU back Antone Smith and should have his choice of colleges come Signing Day.

Feeew! I looked everywhere for this thread.

Anyway he is one on Rivals top five RBs on the wish list. Kid is small in size with great speed. No 3 APB in the country.

He is a dangerous receiver and kick returner. Big time playmaker.

Oklahoma and Florida might have the inside track on him.

"I am trying to take it slow but I want to make a decision before the season," he said. "I would say that Oklahoma, Georgia, Michigan, Florida, Florida State, and UNC are probably my top five or six."

Per Rivals...

I did a search and I didn't see the guys thread... Anyway, This kids film is off the charts. Reminds me of Ryan Williams at Tech. He has the shake but he seems to like contact a little to. I would love to have him....

Don't know how much of a shot we really have. But if he comes you have to think we have a chance....
