Victor Beasley - Football Recruiting

Thompson chases Gadsden prospects : Football Recruiting : GoVolsXtra.com

Vic Beasley had a nice showing Tuesday after meeting UT’s coaching staff for the first time.

The 6-4, 215-pounder from Adairsville (Ga.) High was named one of the linebacker MVP’s following his performance.

Beasley said he hopes his showing will convince UT’s coaching staff to offer him a scholarship.

“I believe they liked me a lot and I believe I should get an offer soon,” said Beasley, who has offers from Auburn, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Duke, Louisville, Stanford and East Carolina.

Beasley said he believes he would fit into UT’s defense because of his size and athletic ability.

“I just wanted to impress the coaches with my outside linebacker skills,” Beasley said, “how I run and how I use my speed to help my athletic ability.”

Beasley said he plans to wait until after his senior season to commit to a school.

He said he would certainly make a return trip to UT if he receives an offer.

“I like (Neyland) Stadium and I like this place,” he said. “The coaches are great here and I just love being in this atmosphere.”

I think Scout had him listed as a WR and Rivals as an Athlete. He lined up as an LB at the camp.

Dude has really good speed at linebacker. This guy may be a future Mike in the Tennessee 2.

Isn't 213 pounds a little light for an SEC Linebacker?

Not at all. Raynoch Thompson showed up to Tennessee at 185 lbs. Westmoreland and Rico McCoy were both about 200 when they arrived.

213 might not be the biggest for the SEC if you are a COLLEGE senior.

I was thinking he would be a Kiffin WR with those measurables as well.

Beasley is a multi-position athlete in high school that can do a little bit of everything from quarterback, to running back to wide receiver. However at 6 feet 5, with a lean muscular frame, Beasley has all kinds of upside on the defensive side of the ball.

Beasley is a huge linebacker who uses his long arms and overall length to cover a lot of ground. He is rangy and fluid and moves well for a taller linebacker. He could grow into a defensive end but more likely he'll be a strongside linebacker who would excel in a 3-4 defense but can also be very effective in a 4-3. His coverage skills were impressive, even against slot receivers.

Supposed to be announcing tomorrow morning at 8am but according to Clemson fans he will be a Tiger. I hope we get him but not sure at the moment. Oh well either way we(Bama) find out in the morning.

This really is not the fun part when there is a number crunch. I think if he would have commited at camp he would be UA bound, but the spots are filling up quick and just don't think it worked out. Plus it looks like Clemson is offering him a spot at offense which we were not. So I am glad he is going where he feels it will work out best for him.

The other funny thing was in his rivals write-up it said we wanted him to hold out until later and also wouldn't take L Owens commitment. I hope not because those are to players with alot of upside.

This is the reason I am glad we are not in a crunch yet, its always nice to have recruits, but I think our staff always likes to make a splash. What better way to do that than on NSD? Plus a large majority of the top players wait until NSD.

The one and only spot I wish we had now, obviously, is QB. Other than that, I think we are set up perfectly for this point in the recruiting season.

More trips lie ahead.

"I haven't planned any, but I know I have to get up to Clemson and Tennessee, but I'm not sure when," he said. "I haven't talked to (Volunteers defensive line) coach (Ed) Orgeron in a while. They want to use me as a slot receiver and tight end. I plan on getting up there soon, too. I want to go to FSU, too."

How does the three-star recruit now assess his recruitment? And does anyone have the true advantage?

"I'm still committed to Clemson, but not fully," the Adairsville (GA) standout noted. "I'm confident with the school there, but I don't want to lie... I like Auburn a lot right now and I'm leaning towards them a lot right now. They are the favorite out of the schools that I'm not committed to."
