Yeah, I just have a tough time believing Florida would turn this kid away because of his attitude.

:wavey:

It may be tough to believe, but that's exactly what happened. Urbie and another asst coach took had a private sit down with him after camp and apparently the coaches thought his ego is much too large and could potentially a locker room cancer. This is the knock on this guy. He is extremely talented and did solidfy his position, at FNL, as one of the top WRs in this class. But he is very confident and very cocky. You never know for sure about these things though based upon a few hours of communication. Whoever gets him will be getting an elite WR prospect, that's for sure.

I'm sure he's the first cocky wide receiver that Florida has ever recruited.

We need some swagger here at UT. As much as I think his ego maybe a bit big, after thinking long and hard about this guy, if anyone can tame him it's our coaching staff. I think it might even help with team attitude to see a guy come in believing 110% in his abilities to do the job people expect him to do.

He'll have several coaches over him that are used to coaching millionaires that have proven a hell of a lot more than Ambles has. Keeping his ego in check won't be a problem.

College egos are sometimes just as difficult to control, but at least Kiffin and Co. are older than all of the players they are coaching now. I agree, I don't think he will be a problem if he comes here and if he is then he will be sent on his way.

USC stopped recruiting him, the Under Armour game rescinded it's invitation to him. UGA hasn't recruited him at all. There is some reason that all of these people are passing on Ambles. They may know something we don't, but his attitude towards his teammates and coaches has been named the culprit by many.

Markeith Ambles, McDonough, Ga., Henry County — He’s definitely got the ability to be a star at the next level, but issues have arisen concerning some off-the-field issues and his attitude. USC pulled its offer and a few schools have stopped recruiting him all together. But Meyer, despite the recent inquires into the numerous player arrests since he took over at Florida, is someone who has been able to help those with disciplinary problems in the past. Rivals.com rates him as the seventh-best receiver.

USC and UGA I can buy the attitude excuse. Not Florida.

Honestly I'm not gonna really worry about attitude problems because if any staff can instil discipline in their players it is this staff. We will no longer win the Fulmer cup, just look at the facts highest gpa in 5 years and no arrests. Let's give the kid a chance.

Just for the record, UT has never won the Fulmer Cup.

Let him line up against Berry a couple of times...humble pie.

This makes me kind of indifferent on this particular player. If he's brought into a good solid culture, he might become a solid player who keeps himself out of trouble (ala Randy Moss with the Patriots). I do think that CLK and staff have built that kind of "team over individual" locker room culture based on the higher GPAs and complete lack of off-season arrests.

Of course, there is always the possibility that he will disrupt said culture instead of becoming a part of it (ala T.O. with every team he's played for). Sometimes the strength of the culture just isn't enough to get a player to straighten out. I would have said that the Eagles had a very strong culture when they brought T.O. in, but they were a mess when he left.

I know the pro examples aren't perfect, but I think they illustrate my point that, while I trust the coaching staff's judgment if they want this WR enough to bring him in, I recognize the risks associated and won't lose any sleep if he goes elsewhere.

Shades of Kelley Washington.

CLK said Daniel Hood went to UT on an acedemic scholarship. Does that count against the 85?
That is not what he said. He said he had an Academic Scholarship on the table before the AD decided to allow him to play football. Kiffin then offered him an Athletic Scholly, which is a much better scholly money wsie, and he accepted it.

Is Ambles as good as everyone thinks. He's not real fast and I've heard some negitive things about him.

Idk. He is very smooth. I think he is more of a possession reciever then anything. I would take him, FWIW.

Rob Lewis just said that Ambles maybe close to a decision and rumor has it that it's either Florida or us, with UT having a slight lead. VERY interesting.

It's my understanding that UF stopped recruiting him. Not sure why or if that is true. His recruitment seems to be off and I'm not sure why...
