Scout.com: Tennessee early favorite for Miss. JC OL

Right now they [Tennessee] are my early favorite. I have seen the campus, it’s incredible.

I couldn't find a profile for 2007 or 2008, so I believe he was unranked coming out of high school.

Are jucos really what we want?

I would say yes, to fill in the gap between 10 and 11 with linemen. Still bringing in freshmen, but having these guys so we want have an all freshmen/soph. line at some point. JMO

With our OL dept we MUST take some Jucos. We lose 5 OL after this season and some DT's can become OL also

Junior college players can come in and make an instant impact that is what they are recruited for. I would say in 2010 we have 3 juco players on the line and shofield at tackle and revis at center

He must be a very mobile OL to have a 4.8 40 at his size. Sounds like a perfect fit for Kiffin's system.

UT's only OL's with significant game experience are SR's. As best as I can count, they'll only have 7/8 returning scholarship players after this year.

They only signed 3 OL's in 09 (if that's where Hood plays which I doubt) and Schofield is the only one likely to see he field this fall. They've converted some guys and hopefully brought along some guys that didn't show up under Fulmer like Brimfield and Shaw. Seven to eight scholarship players return with only 4-5 of them having game experience and probably only one with starting experience.

In short, yes, UT desperately needs to sign at least 3 very solid JUCO OL's and then 3 more HS OL's at least.

Sounds like a good plan to me. That allows us to get players who can contribute immediately as the younger players get the coaching and S&C training they will need to play well later on.

I believe Hood is starting out as a TE, by the way.

Well we already have Pair, Fulton, and Jose on borad. So in your plan we would be done. I think we add 2 more OL, hopefully Cam Clemmons and Stone, and possibly a Juco. We may take Jucos, but not nearly as many as you think.

when you need depth and fast...you need at least 2 jucos...too hard to count on freshman without fully developed bodies to stand the SEC weekly grind...JUCOS at least have a more mature body to take the beating

Kids go to juco's for a lot of reasons. Doesn't mean you can't get an overlooked player or a diamond in the rough. Big kid good speed. Year playing and living college ball should mean a more mature athlete. Take em all day long.

I said "at least". These guys will be unproven so "over recruiting" this position is definitely a good idea. You must account for the likelihood that several will flop.

things can change in a hurry...

"I'm leaning towards Mississippi State," Curry said. "But I really haven't heard from them lately other than getting letters from them. I think they've got a good football team and a good school. I'm looking for a good school because I don't want to just play football, I want to go to school too."

It sounds like whichever team's affiliate contacts him, then he'll tell them they're the favorite. Just enjoying his moment in the sun..:peace2:

Might as well enjoy the ride. Although if it really came down to academics, the only reason to go to Mississippi State would be for Meteorology.

"Tennessee was my first offer. That first offer was very exciting. I didn't realize teams like that were looking at me. In high school Mississippi State and Ole Miss were looking at me but I didn't have offers like that."

Speaking of Tennessee, Curry took a vacation there and stopped by Knoxville to check out the Volunteers.

"I like the school. The atmosphere is great and they are some nice people. They need offensive linemen but then again so many universities need tackles."

Per Rivals... He would be a great pickup...
