Calvin Barnett | DT
Hometown Tulsa, OK
High School Booker T. Washington High School
Height 6'3"
Weight 290 lbs.

Barnett can be a disruptive presence in the trenches. He has good size and combines that with good quickness. He can get moving and crash the backfield. He has a nice quick swim move that he is able to utilize when blockers lunge at him. His ability to pretty consistently get off the ball before the man in front of him makes him tough to block, but he is also physical. Flashes the ability to generate power from his lower body and can take on a block and hold his ground. Flashes the ability to use his hands to separate. He can be tough to move off the ball and does a good job of being able to get into the gap and work down the line laterally. He needs to be more consistent with his hands as he can lose them at times. He also needs to watch his pad level as he has a tendency to quickly rise up. While his quick swim move can be exciting to watch he is leaving himself exposed and in general he just needs to be sure to play lower at times. When he keeps his pads down he can be tough to contain when combined with his size and quickness. He has a good motor and pursues to the ball. Displays solid speed for his size. Quickly changes directions adequately. His ability to get off the ball allows him to be troublesome as a pass rusher as he can beat his man with a quick move. He can also bull his way back. Barnett has some coachable things he needs to fix things that he can probably get away with at the high school level, but will need to adjust at the college level. Overall though a good defensive tackle prospect.

"It will come down to which school that shows me who wants me the most. Depth chart will matter, because I played as a freshman and I am not used to sitting on the bench."

“I am going to try to take a few of my friends down there. Oklahoma has a great chance for me going there. They are Oklahoma and they played for the National Championship this year and you just can’t cancel that out."

Calvin says he is getting mail from all over the country and tOSU has been to school to talk with his coach. The Buckeyes are currently Calvin's leader and they say they will be offering soon.

Barnett so far has not picked up an offer but after his performance last Saturday could have a big one from the Big Ten coming in any day now.

"I'm not even sure what is going on with recruiting. I know LSU has a whole lot of interest in me and my coach said that Ohio State is getting ready to offer me," he said. "Right now it's Ohio State that I'm kind of liking, they talked to my coach Friday before practice. He came to let me know they would offer me if I played well in the state championship game."

For now though he is getting mail from a lot of other schools around the region, and far from it.

"I'm getting mail from everywhere, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Arkansas, it's a long list."

"I'm becoming highly recruited now so I'm just making sure that I have the GPA and test scores that I need so I can make sure that I can go to the place that I want to."

The four-star recruit has visited Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The latter two have stuck out in his mind as current favorites along with Florida and LSU.

He wasn't kidding about his depth chart comment. Nowhere else could he have expected to play early.
