Dexter Morant - Football Recruiting

Scout.com: Dexter Morant Profile

Morant is a good sized and physical defensive end. He possesses more then ideal height and looks on film to have solid bulk for his build. He also possesses plenty of room to add more good size with time in a college weight program. He has a solid get-off. He is a physical kid who is not afraid of contact. Will flash the ability to shoot his hands and generate power from his lower body and push a blocker off of him and shed. You would like to see that from him more consistently. He is not afraid to mix it up, but will often play high and slam into blockers. You would like to see him watch his pad level and not expose his chest and use his reach to create more separation. Does a solid job of being able to work off blocks, but is little bigger and better then some of his competition now and can get away with some poor technique. Displays good straight line speed. Takes solid angles in pursuit. He is a solid tackler and his wingspan helps him to reel in some ball carriers though he can over-run the play at times. As a pass rusher he displays the whereabouts to get his hands up when he can't get to the quarterback. He has some upside and will flash the ability to get to the shoulder and turn the corner, but needs to keep developing his pass rushing arsenal and not attack blockers head on. Morant comes across as a pretty tough kid on the field and his potential size makes him an intriguing prospect. He needs to keep developing his game, but his raw skills will certainly raise some interest.

"This summer I'm going to Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Clemson and South Carolina for one-day camps," he said.

So who does the blue-chip prospect favor entering mid-May?

"Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Clemson and Tennessee (in order)," the nation's No. 234 overall prospect regardless of position listed.

Tennessee – "I think they are going to have a great program with the new coaches there. They have NFL coaches there with experience of coaching in the pros. They are going to be good this year."
