From the SC site. Cann remains high on the Gamecoacks after all the new offers, but says he is keeping his options open. He will be at South Carolina this weekend and will be paying attention to how he fits in with the staff, the academics, and their facilities. He mentions Florida, Georgia, Clemson and Tennessee by name.

Cann said seven schools have emerged as his favorites...USC, Clemson, North Carolina, NC State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Tennessee. "Those are the ones showing me what I like right now," Cann said. "I'm going to make a decision earlier than most people think but I don't know when. It will probably be before my season."

OL AJ Cann (6-3 265) of Bamberg-Ehrhardt had a busy weekend with appearances at the Shrine Bowl combine at Wilson High in Florence and the Scout.com combine at West Charlotte High. Wake Forest was the most recent offer for Cann who has 32 offers. His most recent school visits were to Georgia Tech and NC State. Last Tuesday USC's Shane Beamer was the first recruiter to come by his school. Cann talked with Clemson recruiter Chris Rumph Sunday and expects him to visit the school this week. It will probably be before my season." Cann said there is no leader among his top group.

Tennessee – "I've seen a lot of film about coach Lane (Kiffin). They are putting together a new staff that's going to win there."

"South Carolina is ahead and the rest of my final list is North Carolina, Georgia Tech, NC State, Clemson, Alabama, Tennessee and Virginia Tech," the nation's No. 2 center listed. "I plan on making a decision before my football season – way earlier than people expect, possibly in June."

“Oh yes sir I have a lot of interest in the University of Tennessee,” Cann told InsideTennessee.com. “I would have to say that Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina are recruiting me the hardest.”

Cann recently narrowed his 32 offers down to seven favorites, Tennessee made the cut. “North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, NC State, Alabama, Clemson and Virginia Tech,” Cann said. “

Everybody says how great the town and the campus is, it’s impressive to hear other top prospects say those things,” Cann said. “I’m excited about getting the opportunity of seeing first hand for myself what all the excitement is about. I will take a trip there sometime this summer, maybe for a camp.”

Cann will be at USC next week

By Phil Kornblut

OL AJ Cann (6-3 265) of Bamberg-Ehrhardt will attend a one day camp at USC next week his coach said Thursday. And the Gamecocks are in very good shape with the big lineman. "South Carolina has always been up there as the lead runner," Butch Crosby said. "North Carolina, NC State and Georgia Tech are the other schools making a push for him." Cann has narrowed his list to USC, Clemson, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Tennessee and NC State. He might take an unofficial visit to Clemson this Sunday according to Crosby. And he might go to Georgia Tech June 13th. "He's not going to do a lot of camps," Crosby said. "He's just lifting weights and doing skills and drills." Crosby said in their spring game last Saturday Cann recorded "10 or 11 pancake blocks." Last season he graded out at 97% and did not allow a sack.

It's absolutely amazing how often we hear from prospects "Tennessee is recruiting me the hardest." That means something to these kids and it's a very easy way to get on the final list of a lot of these kids. Pay them more attention than the other schools recruiting them. It's something we were not used to hearing under the former staff -- at least not to this extent. When O said no one is going to outwork us, he wasn't BSing. What we didn't realize (or at least I didn't) was how far that goes in terms of getting these kids that wouldn't ordinarily be, interested in the University of Tennessee.

I just hope he doesn't go to USC. I think this guy will be great and would be a perfect fit in our system. I think he's a future pro bowler but thats just me hearing from scouts and watching his video. The only reason I said that is if he is I will pull up this post haha.

Cann commits to USC

Bamberg-Ehrhardt offensive lineman A.J. Cann committed to USC during a press conference Wednesday morning.

Cann, the second-ranked center nationally, according to Rivals.com, had more than a dozen scholarship offers and picked the Gamecocks over Clemson, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida State and Oklahoma.

"I wanted to get it done sooner than everyone expected. So I decided to get it done," Cann said. "And I wanted to do what's right, continue to work hard for the Bamberg-Ehrhardt program, and continue to win."

Cann, projected to play center, becomes the seventh verbal commitment for the Gamecocks' 2010 recruiting class.

"Some of the players I see up there, I've got a good relationship with them," Cann said. "And the offensive line needs a lot of help. So, I just decided to stick with Carolina and help them out."

Just wanted to stay close to home, no faulting that. Had great things to say about our recruitment and that definitely still means something.

Asked of his commitment is still firm, Cann replied, "I'm still there right now." He's not sure of any other official visits right now besides USC though he's still getting recruiting interest from North Carolina, Tennessee and Clemson.

Cann said he's been working uncommitted Shrine Bowl teammates Marcus Lattimore, Justin Parker and John Fulton trying to get them to join him at USC. "We got them leaning our way right now," he said. "We got 'em." Cann added that Tennessee commitment Corey Miller and Clemson commitments Bashaud Breeland and Martavis Bryant have been trying to pull him their way.

From Shrine Bowl practice:

Under Armour All-Americans A.J. Cann (Bamberg, S.C./Bamberg-Erhardt) and Corey Miller (Duncan, S.C./James Byrnes) squared off and they got the best of each other once.

Seems like this guy is having some doubts with his USCe commitment. I know we are in some fashion of pursuit.. but how hard are we going for him?
