10 Second rule

Always wondered why they had a backcourt rule but not a 10 second rule.

They really should change the mens to 6-8 seconds too.

I like the 10 second in men's college. I would like to see a 32 second or 28 second shot clock though. Speed things up a bit and help force kids to play faster

I always thought the women's game didn't have the 10-second rule, because the competition wasn't as balanced as it is in the men's game. Adding this rule makes it easier for teams to press. It will make it even easier for teams like UConn to destroy teams that aren't near their level. On the other hand, it will also help lesser-talented teams who win with a full-court system like UK.

I don't think they should change it from 10 seconds, but I do think they should stop resetting the count when the ball is deflected out of bounds or the offense calls timeout. You shouldn't be able to call timeout after 9 seconds and then inbound the ball with a fresh 10-second clock. It should remain at 9.

Right on or rolling around on the floor fixing to slide out of bounds and call time out the refs give the time out to you most of the time.

i don't really see the need for it in the womens game,i mean they still have to get a play off faster than 30 seconds,if they want to slow it down they will just get past the half court and pass it around from there,it will definitely help the better talented teams

I don't see how this can possibly work when the refs can't even count to three consistently when posts are camping in the lane. We just more than tripled the difficulty for them.

I hate anything that gives more power to the refs. Now we will be treated to refs jumping in at 7-8 seconds on some plays and waiting for 12-15 seconds on others. They will get caught up in the emotion of the game and jump the gun. Yeah, that is a real improvement there I tell you.

If it ain't broke don't "fix" it.

I also hate the thought that the women think they have to make their game more like the men's when a good portion of their fanbase prefers the women's game precisely because it is not like the men's. All of these extra shenanigans really don't add anything. If you want to reward good defense then have the defense always get the jump ball when there is a tie up.

I never understand why the NCAA hadn't implemented the 10 second rule into womens basketball before now.

I'm surprised that no one on here had brought up the changes that former WNBA and USA basketball president Val Ackerman had proposed making a week ago.

Ackerman urges change to NCAA women's basketball tourney

i did read that article, but i wasn't much impressed with her after this comment

"The goal isn't necessarily to make money," Ackerman

Q: How does WNBA survive with little t.v. money & miniscule crowds? Just finished Pat Summit's last book...great!

I think they'll be watching for the "shot clock" to hit 20 then call back court... its always been the gauge. In the NBA when it hit 16 its backcourt because "8 seconds" have run off the 24 second clock.

The players use it as a gauge to get over halfcourt also... they do not count in their heads

that's the thing,it just doesn't really matter,if anything,it would help the more talented team and the ones with better depth, which they don't need the help

You got that right.
