CLK's staff extended an offer to Quinton Alton from Memphis Hillcrest. At 6'6-240 he appears to fit the mold of a large SEC TE.

Alton said Tennessee showed interest during his stay in Knoxville, Tenn. Former Ole Miss coach Ed Orgeron is recruiting him for the Volunteers.

"They have been scouting me up, and they kind of offered me last week," Alton said.

Alton puts Tennessee second behind Georgia on his wish list, as he is looking forward to the Athens, Ga., trip Saturday to display his skills in front of the Bulldogs. Alton said he would commit to Georgia immediately if offered.

"I was told to gain weight and move to offensive line for my best chance at the league, but I'm not into that," Alton said. "I'm going to worry about developing at tight end."

Alton has a 3.4 GPA and ran 40s of 4.9 seconds and 5.0 seconds at Rebel Yell. Alton has just started lifting weights and currently maxes at 185 pounds on the bench press.

holy crap 6'6 245 and only benches 185, can't imagine how big he would be after a year of good lifting.

Doesn't sound like he is too interested in coming to UT with some of the comments he made. With the offer list he has he shouldn't have a problem going to any school he wants.

Benches 185? I benched 185 as a 180lbs 14 year old freshman. Somebody teach this kid what weights are for.

How do you kind of offer someone? Either you do or you don't. Is there any confirmation that this kid truly has an offer?

Kid must really be pretty good athlete. Those #'s are not that great. 185 is pretty low. I have seen girls bench more. Who knows. Seems like a big time project. Would have to Redshirt for sure.

he has played basketball all his life.......new to the game of football.....he is a sleeper and I have not heard of him having a Tennessee offer yet

Thus far, Alton has camped at Mississippi and Tennessee, where the Volunteers coaching staff verbally offered him.

From his Rivals article, he wants to be a TE and only a TE. With a few years in a college strength and conditioning program, who knows, we could have the next Antonio Gates on our hands. I don't think UGA will offer since they took Lynch and Orson Charles last year. I like our chances.

“I like Tennessee, it’s a good school. I’ve been talking to Coach Orgeron a lot. He’s the one that’s been scouting me for them,” Alton said. “They really like my size and my reach.”

Alton has the size as a pass catcher that Lane Kiffin coveted while running the offense at Southern California. Tennessee is also in need of at least one tight end in Kiffin's 2010 recruiting class.

Per Scout... Alton now claims offers from UT, UNC, and Notre Dame. He is planning on playing football and basketball in college...
