He is a 4 star on Rivals and Scout and is the #9 and #10 ranked QB on those sites. Bryant said on Smokey Howline that he has heard that UT is showing some interest in this kid. He wants to play both football and baseball in college...

That's because manning was our QB. If I had manning starting I wouldn't care what the back ups did.

Helton got injured and realized that his future was in baseball.

That part bothers me personally. This could end up like another Casey Kelly deal. All it will take is for him to get drafted and get a signing bonus and we lose out on another QB. Even if he does make it to college, I don't think it is a good idea for a QB to be shuffling two sports. JMO.

So he was afraid of competition, or he realized his future was in baseball??

He was a much betterbaseball player. I think he knew thy and hung up the football clears after his injury. Don't really blame him

I never heard the story of why Helton actually played football. He was on baseball scholly for sure and maybe someone convinced him to suit up. His senior year we made it to the state football finals but lost to someone, maybe Oak Ridge, don't remember. He had a cannon. I think we either won state in baseball his junior or senior year, maybe both. He was the one guy I played baseball against growing up that you kind of knew was better than anyone else his age.

Slow down while you type man! :whistling:

Also, Helton's biggest delima was not football vs baseball, it was first base vs pitcher.

Donovan McNabb and Charlie Ward.

Give me a more recent one than ward... and McNabb played for Syracuse.

No starting QB for UT will be allowed to play another sport - just won't happen here. Sure some 3rd string QB may - but not if they have aspirations to start and contribute.

T. Pryor obviously didn't get his way... plus it's even more difficult to play football and basketball in college.
