Here's another guy to keep an eye on from the same county as UT signee Martaze Jackson and Auburn signee Justin Delaine.

Plays in the lowest classification in Alabama but his team has won 6 of the last 8 state championships. Runs in the 4.5-4.6 range and has been recently offered by Auburn, Duke, and South Alabama. Set to meet with Saban this Tuesday.

Uncle was the first black qb to play in football game at Alabama.

"Auburn seems like they have a really good program going right now," he said. "They had a great season and then finished No. 4 in recruiting.

"They are definitely headed in the right direction."

At 6-2, 215, Landrum runs a 4.6-second 40-yard dash. As a junior, he was selected first-team all-state by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

Alabama's in-state efforts for the class of 2011 continue, and the latest prospect to land good news from the Crimson Tide is a physical linebacker from a tiny Class 1A school in west Alabama.

Sweet Water athlete Chris Landrum has been an integral part of the dominating program's success over the last few years, and on Thursday that hard work paid off in the form of an offer from Saban.

"Coach Saban told me that I was exactly the kind of student-athlete they need in their program," said Landrum who carries a 2.89 GPA. "He thought I was a perfect fit for what they do on defense and I really feel like I could come in and make an early impact. They like me at inside linebacker right where Rolando McClain plays. It is exciting to get big news like that. It made my day.

You may end up being right but surprising Chris is very interested in listening to all comers at this point.

"I want to go back to Auburn soon," he said. "I liked the campus. I liked the coaches. I liked it all.

"Auburn made a good impression."

Landrum claims offers from Auburn, Duke and South Alabama. He's also hearing from Alabama, Florida State, Clemson, UCLA and Duke, among others.

He doesn't list any favorites at this time.

At 6-2, 215, Landrum runs a 4.6-second 40-yard dash. As a junior, he was selected first-team All-State by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

I'm gonna go with the fact that he is infatuated with both Auburn and Alabama....

Infatuated is a bit strong. Excited yes... Infatuated no. Many exceptional athletes have come from the area Chris and have gone on to play at the Division 1 level;however, very few have had the opportunity to possibly continue their careers at a state school or at a high level D1 school.

Florida State is actively recruiting him and he is open to all comers.

“I got 5 offers right now. Alabama, Auburn, Duke, Southern Alabama, and Tennessee offered yesterday. I talked to coach (Darin) Hinshaw yesterday and he offered me. He told me that they like me as an athlete, they are not sure if they like running back or linebacker better. Most schools are recruiting me as a “Mike” or inside linebacker. I don’t care where I play, I just want to play football.”

“Yeah coach Hinshaw offered me yesterday. I’m very interested in Tennessee and learning more about them. He was just telling me they think I’m a great athlete and they want to get me on campus to show me around. They weren’t sure if they liked me at running back or linebacker better. He was also telling me to try and keep an open mind.”

Per VN...

Tennessee offers Alabama linebacker - VolNation

Scout now lists him at 6-3 221.

6'3 220 is spot on...and for all the people that keep saying we have no shot. Here's a little food for thought.

As everyone knows, Chris and most of his family grew up BLEEDING crimson and white. Hell, his diapers may have well been filled with elephant poop. To say his family hates Auburn would be a gross understatement! HOWEVER, they realize that this is a business decision and ONLY want to do what's best for Chris.

Alabama is currently slow playing him and Auburn is only in it because of the Ted Roof connection. Education will play a role in his recruitment but ,if Lance/Hinshaw put in work, we have a shot.

We (UA) are not really slow playing him just wanting to see him play at camp this summer. Auburn seems to think they lead for him. BTW he is visiting UA tommorow for the third time this spring.

One thing that might give UA a edge and why he keeps visiting is because his father and uncle both played football at UA.

If you weren't slow playing him, he would have committed yesterday. Alabama has been his dream school for quite some time hence the repeat visits.

His dad attempted to walk on on the BASEBALL team and his uncle played football there but ended up transferring.

It seems like Auburn definitely leads and get the feeling Bama won't take him when it comes down to it. They will only take elite LBs from here on out.

Yes we have many ahead of him this year at that spot. Like I said in another thread with UA taking a smaller class this year and also looking for more players from outside the state I think a school like UT has great opportunity to come in and get players this year in AL. It is not that AL does not have top players just not at the positions we are looking for them at.

No matter what the Barn seems to think they are capable of UT has more tradition and better chances with some AL players IMO.

hard to pull big names out of alabama. he's either auburn or alabama, will not leave the state.

Right, Vols never pulled their national championship qb out of Alabama. Must have dreamed that happened.

Meanwhile, other SEC school are gonna be p.o'd if we have a year to recruit instead of 6 wks (Kiffin) and 2 wks (this year). They'll say that's not fair.
