Thompson chases Gadsden prospects : Football Recruiting : GoVolsXtra.com

With former Alabama coach Lance Thompson leading the charge, Tennessee is in contention for two prospects from Gadsden City (Ala.) High School: rising senior cornerback Dale Trimble and rising junior safety Daryl Collins.

Thompson, now the linebackers coach at UT, has already impressed the duo, especially Trimble.

“Tennessee is the first school to offer me and they’re the first school I camped in,” the 5-foot-10, 175-pounder said. “I really like Tennessee.”

The feeling was mutual as Trimble was named one of the defensive back MVP’s in Tuesday’s skill-position camp at UT.

“I thought I did pretty well but I can do better,” Trimble said. “Just got to keep working.”

Trimble has 11 offers, including invites from Auburn, Clemson, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and UT.

“I really don’t have a top five,” Trimble said, “but Tennessee is one of them.”

Collins is a work in progress for any recruiter. His early impressions of UT are good.

“It was cool man,” the 6-foot, 190-pounder said of UT’s camp. “I really enjoyed it. I really liked the facilities.”

Collins doesn’t have any scholarship offers yet but that will likely change. Collins said he has heard from plenty of schools.

“Tennessee, if I had to pick, they are on my mind,” Collins said.

Trimble’s decision will almost certainly have an impact on Collins.

“Dale’s my boy,” Collins said. “We go to the same school. I grew up with him. I’ve known him since I was about five or six (years old).”

Collins received an official offer from Tennessee on Monday

Collins visited Tennessee last summer camp,

"I'm intrigued, because they pass the ball a lot," said the 6-foot, 190-pound wide receiver. "I know they have, I think, the third-biggest stadium in the country. Their stadium stays packed. I've been up there and the facilities are great and the atmosphere is too."

"I mean, if I really like the school, I'm going to sit down and talk to my family and decide how far they want me to go out. Pretty much, it's going to be my decision if I want to go that far," Collins said.

Have not seen a thread on him yet...

Just curious of why nobody talking about him...

He is a WR from Gadsden City and had a very non productive year last year but is extremely talented. The last time I seen him he told me that he is really big on Tenn. and with BAMA having a huge WR class the last 2 years and already have Shinn and Woodson JR for this coming up class that his offer from bama is not concrete. He did mention he would like to play with former teammates Dre Kirkpatrick, Jerrell Harris, And Kendall Kelly. Only was able to talk to him for 10 mins or so (90% of it was about UT) but his eyes light up talking about UT. If CDD goes after this kid and lands him UT could have a connection with the hottest High school in the country.

He only recruits kids for character and if they are from a religious background. Does this recruit qualify? Is he unrated or 1 star, if not he has no chance of being recruited by Dooley. Keep the faith, we'll be back just in time for my social security to kick in, oops that may not happen either, now the question which do I have more faith in Dooley bringing us back or social security being there for me??? haha hard choice.

Come on Fiji, give it a break! Ease up on Dooley & let the man do his thang. By the way, if u keep stressing over CDD the way you have been, you might stroke out at an early age, & won't have to worry about SS. I know its hard sometimes, but relax a little & be patient. Trust in our staff to evaluate talent.

I'm obviously no fan of Dooley, but this went way over the top.
