Cali = not happening.

This staff will most likely not recruit west of the Mississippi very much at all.

We can't just ignore the west. We need to try to grab at least 1 or 2 from out west.

A west coast prospect would need to have a tie to UT/Knoxville before CDD would expend too much effort on him going forward IMO

I sincerely hope this is not the plan.

If one of the best WRs from California is interested in tennessee, you think the staff is gonna tell him, "nahhh you're to far west."
whats the point of having the biggest recruiting budget in the country if you dont plan on traveling.

If a solid prospect shows interest, even if he's in Alaska, the staff will go full steam at him...

The staff will still reach out to these prospects (letters, phone calls, etc...), but will be alot more picky in who they actually spend meaningful time on west of the Mississippi.

I think that we will recruit Louisana, and Texas pretty hard. Maybe a lil California, but i think west of the Mississippi we will recruit some.

I think this too. Granted if a top flight recruit is out there saying he'd like to visit UT you know this staff is going to go out there, but I really believe we'll set up camp like we own it in GA especially with Dooley's name and LT and CS recruiting it. Which isn't a bad thing b/c there is a lot of good talent that comes outta there. I hope we do pretty good in FL with Rubio helping Hinshaw. I think we have a good shot at LA especially considering CDD and Joseph both just came from there and prob made a lot of relationships and ties. Hopefully, Russell made some good ties in TX while he was a coach at NT, he was there like 14 yrs or something, had to have met some coaches during that time. All in all I think GA and LA become our top feeders.

I agree. Dooley has said as much. We are going to see alot more Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, Louisiana recruiting and alot less California.

What the hell are you talking about

I am talking about exactly what Dooley has said SEVERAL times.

He said their focus will be on the kids with 4-5 hours of Knoxville. HE said himself they will not be as national as in the past, too many good players in the south to waste time traveling across country.

Their efforts will be on the Southeastern states big time.

Will they recruit all over? Sure, but only kids who show real interest and not just a passing glance.

Even when we recruit nationally, we dont get many outside the south east anyway so its kind of moot point anyway.

How many CA kids on the roster right now? 3 - A Juco that had no other offers to top schools and will end up leaving most likely and an OL whose best option was SD State. And the same for Tyler Bray altho he was a steal we hope.

Prior to that how many kids have we had in the past 10 years west of the Mississippi?

Clausens, Foster, Moore, Creer, Ainge.

Not many, maybe 3% of the roster.

So why waste all the money and time flying out there when we get less than 1% of the kids we recruit?

And just because Rivals or Scout has TN on his list doesnt mean a damn thing about his real interest. When the kids start doing real interviews and really talking about TN thats where you gauge "interest".

Ok this is good stuff but my response was directed more towards the fact that you said they would not recruit west of the Mississippi. So let's just go ahead and get rid of all of the Texas and Oklahoma prospects and certainly all California prospects.

And by the way Gerlad Jones, Kevin Burnett, Denarius Moore = west of Mississippi. Note all the guys you listed and here were all starters.
