5-6/154, apb, atlanta (ga.) westminster

assets: Has exceptional speed, good change of direction and appeared to be a high-character, high-academic student athlete.
Areas for improvement: Abernathy is very slight in stature, and if he plans on playing any running back at the next level he will need to add about 20 pounds.
What was most impressive: Ran the fastest 40 of the day at 4.42 hand-held on fieldturf. He was also nearly unstoppable on the wheel route, blazing by most linebackers.
Conclusion: He already has two bcs offers at this time. Most schools are likely looking at him as a return specialist, third-down back and slot receiver similar to how florida uses brandon james. Barry Every Rivals

Seems awful small.... Ala Trindon Holliday at LSU.... His 40 time is nothing near Hollidays, though...

After a quick stop in Auburn, Abernathy visited Tennessee and met new Vols head coach Derek Dooley. The experience Knoxville provided was encouraging in terms of treatment and a scholarship offer after Abernathy felt like Auburn representatives gave him "the cold shoulder."

"I didn't like Auburn that much," Abernathy admitted. "I didn't get the warm, home-like feel at Auburn that I got at Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Cincinnati."

"I went to see Tennessee, and it was completely different. I felt wanted and everything was good. I met the running back coach and Coach Dooley. (Tennessee) was more of what I was used to, city-wise, and within the whole environment, I felt more at home."

He camped here but has not earned an offer yet.

Aw, man. Another 3*.

Joking aside, I would really like to have a speedy player in our back field this year so we can open up the run game, and thus the passing game. Poole, Neal, and hopefully Smith is pretty solid, but adding someone like this, Morris, or Seymour, or even Buie could really do some damage.

I forgot I left out Oku, but he has yet to prove anything in my eyes.

David Oku was a true freshman last year and did a great job returning kickoffs on special teams. He also ran the ball with consistency when he was given the opportunity. Give him some time. I would call David Oku's first year at Tennessee a success, given the other running backs we have on the team and the offensive line situation last year.

I'll agree that his freshmen year was fine. But, our OL was fine last year. He hardly had any hand-offs (Brown and Hardesty), and he did have a good average for return yards (26.2 yds) and 2nd among SEC freshmen.

My point is that I'm looking for an impact player. Someone that adds diversity and is a gamechanger. By all means, Oku could be that player this year, but I'm looking for one in this class.
